I very much enjoy watching movies that have Reese Witherspoon in them.  She’s been in some bad movies, but she always does a magnificent job and she’s always very attractive.  I once read that she wanted to be taken as a serious actor, so she has refused to take overly sexy or vapid roles.  I’m not quite sure what to call Intolerable Cruelty, but at least she wasn’t Sarah Michelle Gellar’s character.  Now one of my favorite Reese Witherspoon movies is available in a whole new format.

Starting this January 20th, now available on Blu-ray Disc from MTV Films and Paramount Studios Home Entertainment comes the story of high school discontent and the striving to achieve.  Election – Blu-ray Disc is ready to roll out of your television screen and envelope your living room in an electoral haze.  Bring home this hilarious and fantastic film today on the best format yet!

Tracy Flick is a highly driven high school senior who is running for student body president.  Problem is, Mr. McAllister is the faculty member in charge of the student body organization and he can’t stand Tracy.  He recruits Paul, a well-liked jock, to run against her.  Then Paul’s new campaign manager turns out to be his sister’s lesbian lover who is now straight and wants to be with Paul.  His sister decides to run as well, but on the platform that student government is lame.  That’s only the beginning of how convoluted, over-sexed and ultimately hilarious this film becomes.  This film stars Reese Witherspoon, Matthew Broderick, Chris Klein and Jessica Campbell.

The one special feature which is included in this Blu-ray Disc is an optional audio commentary from director Alexander Payne.  I was a little disappointed that there were no further special features, especially with the advent of this film on a brand new format.  Nonetheless, it’s a good commentary and it’s a magnificent film.

This now ten year old film is gloriously wonderful.  It was because of Tracy Flick that I didn’t like Reese Witherspoon as a person for a while and it was also this film which showed me just how fantastic Matthew Broderick really is.  This movie is a delightful take-down of suburbia, high school, driven people and our conflictingly both oversexed and puritanical American society.  Everything about this movie is hilarious and darkly so.  It is deliciously brutal and just as great now as it was ten years ago.

You’ll always win in this Election.

This Blu-ray Disc is available at Amazon.com.
