In his Presidential inauguration address today, Barack Obama explicitly addressed Muslims and said:
“To the Muslim world, we seek a new way forward, based on mutual interest and mutual respect. ”
It was definitely a gesture of goodwill to the Muslim world in general, at least in words.
Then he added:
“To those leaders around the globe who seek to sow conflict, or blame their society’s ills on the West - know that your people will judge you on what you can build, not what you destroy.”
As for who these ‘leaders around the globe who seek to sow conflict’ are – the first name that comes to mind are the leaders of the state of Israel – as they have shown by the rogue state’s three weeks of brutal serial-murdering spree of 1300 men, women and children in Gaza, that its leadership believes in conflict and destruction as the means to continue its occupation and subjugation of Palestine and Palestinians.
If you are wondering if Obama had anything more to say to Israel, How about this:
“To those who cling to power through corruption and deceit and the silencing of dissent, know that you are on the wrong side of history; but that we will extend a hand if you are willing to unclench your fist.”
Or this:
“and for those who seek to advance their aims by inducing terror and slaughtering innocents, we say to you now that our spirit is stronger and cannot be broken; you cannot outlast us, and we will defeat you.”
Now, you may or may not agree whether Obama’s speech-writer Jon Favraeu had Israel in mind when he wrote these lines, but Ponder this….who else has terrorized and slaughtered unarmed and innocent people in recent days except Israel?
No one.
Mr. Obama’s choice of George Mitchell as a Special envoy to Middle-east is a welcome step , at least he did not choose someone like Pro-Israeli Dennis Ross, which would have been a non-starter.
So Mr. Obama, If you want to help Israel unclench its bloody fists – Be tough and not be swayed by the Pro-Israel lobby of Washington and the servants of Israel in the Congress.
Because, they are ready as always to obstruct your efforts as they have done with other Presidents in the past.

I’ll say…The first thing that came to my mind when he said that was the terrorists’ leaders. Israel is more westernized even if in the Mideast.
Geesh…How did you get Israel?
were you watching the same inaugural speech as the rest of the country?
Oh, now I know…

You hate the nation of Israel and think they are big meanies!
Get yourself a better education on the mideast conflict, please.
Israel has bent over backwards for the Palestinians…more than they were ever required to by world leaders.
They pulled their own people out of Gaza so the Palestinians can have a State. And what do they do? Vote in the Hamas, something that disgusted the world.
Hamas and terrorists are the ones who do nothing but destroy…
Obama’s message was pointing the finger at them…
i don’t doubt that Obama will be a vast improvement for the U.S. and the rest of the world
I entirely agree with your analysis and thought the same myself. The President’s position is clear - and if anyone doubts why the Israelis attacked Gaza when they did the reason should now be clear.
Well, it isn’t clear to me, Paddy Briggs.
reread the speech. Even the grammer used does not suggest Israel.
“…leaders around the world…” does not equate to “…leaders of Israel…”
There are no Israeli leaders around the world, just in Israel.
Now, if you talk of leaders around the world who sow conflict and take that to mean terrorist leaders, it makes perfect sense.
Obama is all for better relations with Muslims. He is against terrorists and their leaders.
Remember, Obama said that Israel must do what she must do to protect herself, just like any other nation would do.
“Who else has terrorized and slaughtered unarmed and innocent people in recent days except Israel?
Duh. That’s a rather one sided statement and you are certainly allowed your opinion. After all, this is your forum, but get real. Has Hamas not fired rockets into Israel, killing innocent school children? I’m not asking who fired first and that shouldn’t matter. My question is all about who fires last and that could be either side, except that Hamas will never stop until every Jew on earth is destroyed and you know it. It is a radical Muslim decree and there are no innocent Jews.

By the way, you can interpret what Barack Obama said any way you like, but obviously, you do not know America and its leadership all that well.
For me there is no denying that Israel should exist, as there should be a country for Jews. History has made that more than necessary. In 1976 I was in Amsterdam and I knew some Arab people, some of them from the Riff area in Morocco, but they were very specific they were Arabs, not Riff people. We talked about Hitler. They had never heard of Hitler, but when I told them what he had done to the Jews, they applauded and I got a bit sick. “Cool!” they said. And I had been rather explicit. So I said: “But Hitler wouldnot have stopped with Jews, he would have killed Arabs too in the end. Your family would have ended up in the gaschambers.”
I did not think I was very convincing, I seldom are. But they shut up and started to agree with me that Hitler must have been a nasty bastard for wanting to kill their folks. Needless to say they did not stay my friends for long.
I think the people of Gaza deserve beter than the criminals Hamas are.
