At a school that is around 127 miles from Tucson, Arizona a 13 year old girl Savana Redding was accused by her male middle school Vice Principal Kerry Wilson of possessing Ibuprofen. The School she attends has a zero-tolerance for prescription and non prescription drugs with out written consent. She denied the accusations from the vice principal Wilson. When there was nothing found inside Savana’s backpack he ordered a school nurse and Wilson’s assistant to conduct a strip search on the child. They were both females. They demanded her to remove her all her clothes down to her underwear and bra. They pulled her bra out. No drugs were found.
In her re-count of the event Savana Redding said, “The strip search was the most humiliating experience I have ever had. I held my head down so that they could not see that I was about to cry.” The American Civil Liberties Union has offered to help Savana and the Redding Family. In California a federal appeals court ruled against the school. The court stated “Common sense informs us that directing a 13 year old girl to remove her clothes, partially revealing her breasts and pelvic area, for allegedly possessing ibuprofen, was excessively intrusive.”
It also said the school’s measures into creating a drug free environment were “Overzealous and truamatizing to those they claim to serve” The court went on to reprimand the school’s decision to so brutally search that poor minor girl. If that were my child that the school chose to profile, I would come unglued. There would be no stopping me. They’d better be wearing mouth guards them two women in that school who so chose to make my girl dress down to her britchers and pull out her bra. There would be no end to my fury. I hope they get punished to the full extent of the law. That girl should be removed from that school and that vice principal should be fired for profiling that child. He is not an officer of the law pulling gang members over. He chose that child for pure ignorance and put her through a very horrible experience.Â
Those woman obviously do not have minds of there own. If my superior r told me to do something like that I would tell them to go screw themselves walk out and report it immediately. Loss of job or not. Those two woman are ignorant. I hope they all lose there jobs over this. I hope that Savana can put this behind her and move on with her life. Schools have a responsibility to care and nurture our kids. I understand as they get into older grades there are more problems and mischief amongst our youth. And that stiffer measures are needed to weed out problems with kids. Strip searching is not okay. They found nothing. Nothing. Those people should be ashamed of themselves. Those woman should have to register as sexual offenders teach them some embarrassment.

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a Trackbackomg this is dispicable i 100% agree with your post they should all be fired and regester as sex offenders!!! how horrible for ibuprofin over the counter medicine!!! i understand the reasoning behind not bringing any meds to school but this is over the top and should not have happened i think this principal has a power controll issue…i only hope savana can overcome what these morons put her thru!!!
Never mind if the search was constitutional or not. An important question yes, but…
Maybe it is time to ask why we give police state powers to every petty bureaucrat in the name of endless “wars” on “things” like drugs, and even on “isms”.
We’ve had this war on drugs for decades now. How’s that working out? Here’s a hint. It isn’t. It never will. NEVER. So let’s just back down a little and get a couple of our freedoms back, OK?
Fricking minimum wage Nazis.
Heres what I think they should have done, they should have called her mom and let her see what she could find out?Are if they really thought she had drugs why did they not call police? They should have never strip searched her, thats going a BIG to far!!!!!!!!!!!! Sounds like there running a jail not a school,!
A little girl is treated like a common criminal (drug smuggler) while punks bring guns and other weapons to school and no one claims to suspect anything unusual????????????
Stupid is as Stupid does, and I would push this issue as far as it takes to close this licensed pervert’s academy down!!!
Skanks bring illegal drugs to school and peddle, and is anything done? No. Wusses won’t dare to punish anyone they consider a real threat.
appalling that they would treat a young girl this way. Our school systems seem to get enough flack about their rules and procedures on handling of our kids….THEN they have to pull this! Great article.
They are lucky this is not my child because it would take everything I have not to beat those three people. If I was that girl, I would have told them I refuse to let them strip search me b/c apparently she knew she had nothing on her. I would have told them to call the cops. There is NO way. That poor innocent girl. I hope she holds her head up high & fight this to the full force. My thoughts & prayers are with her.
And as for those other three, I hope they do like you guys said, charge them as sex offenders & fire them all!
omg, this was soo evil. Don’t they have anybody with some sense teaching at that poor school? They’ve gotta be kidding.r they mad?!!Geez, someone should arrest them.
you should keep avideo of it dude
This is so wrong at so many levels.
First, a student does not abdicate Constitutional rights just because they are a minor. A student has a right to have a parent present during questioning, concerning a crime, by police OR by school officials. That clearly wasn’t done.
Second, it was clearly a violation of her 4A rights against unreasonable search and seizure. Was it unreasonable? Any person with half a brain would agree that strip searching a 13 year old over Motrin is unreasonable. We’re not talking a “drug” listed on any of the DEA’s drug schedules, we’re talking about an OTC pain reliever that is prescription (800mg) solely based on the dosage. Hell, she could have 4 OTC 200mg pills and that would be okay? Common sense people.
I am 110% in favor of deterring drug use in schools, but I am also for the education system teaching our kids about their rights AND protecting them. The administrators should have asked themselves if they’d be okay if a cop strip searched them for have prescription strength Motrin. if the answer is no, then they should be doing it to the student. Idiots.
They will lose when the SCOTUS hears the case, I don’t doubt it in the least. I hope the family sues the school system and is awarded a hefty punitive award.
A good analysis of the rights of minors can be found here:

As the father of 8 children, I have fought the unreasoableness of the authority of schools for many years. Also as a higher level educator, I have never thought of the possibility of such embarasment of a child. This is the most sucky thing that I have read in a long time. PARENTS OF THIS GIRL, sue the school system for their pants, School system, fire these ignorant, insensitive morons, perverts. This is the kind of behavior that causes a parent to want to kill. There were so many ways for this to have been handled. The vice prenciple has a power ego, the two persons that conducted the search have not guts or balls. They should have refused to do the search. Is it possible that the three preverts got their jollies out of this action. This is just the kind of crap that causes us to condem our education system to the breakdown of those teachers of our system that have some brains to be able to recognize right form wrong. PARENTS, you are also comtributing to the enviorment for this to exist. Get off your dead ass and go to school meeting and observe what the people that are in charge of your children more than you are and make sure that they are not sickos. One might notice that I am a bit pissed.
Yes this is really far out.
But it seem to me that if you let kids get away with having ibuprofen then it will be some thing worse later. Come on people don’t you remember being kids. Some kids will always try and push the limits to the extreme.
I’m not for the school strip searching our kids. I suggest that they make the parent come in and let the parents strip search the kids then we can see how many times the parent are willing to leave work and not get paid because they have to go to school and strip search their kids. If the parents don’t show up then involve the police.
I believe that discipline at home will change!
If that we’re my daughter/relative, I don’t know if I would have the willpower to keep myself from knocking out that principal. Incidents like this is when I have children, they’ll never attend a government school.
For decades now, the War on Drugs has been ruining millions of lives, filling the prisons with non-violent inmates who have committed no crime other than to self-medicate themselves — allowing murderers and rapists to serve only half their time and go free because of overcrowding.
Now it’s extended into the schools to the children, who are being treated like prisoners in a fascist war zone, being accused of “crimes” and forced to submit to humiliating strip searches.
Who is being protected here? Certainly not the children. All participants in this crime — the molestation of a child — should be held fully accountable, made to pay civil damages and immediately fired.
Just Say No to the War on Drugs
As for the comment by Some Dude — “Come on people don’t you remember being kids” —
Yes, I do, but apparently you don’t. You distrust and accuse a child enough times of doing something “wrong” and they will soon start to rebel and live up to your accusations.
Suggesting parents “strip search” their own children is like going back to Nazi Germany. Thank God you’re not my parent.
i have a 13 yr old daughter, my husband and i had to have a family talk re: this very issue, since we live here in arizona.. why were the police not called?? i agree with a very strict drug policy but at the same time “strip search” should never be an option without a parent present. period. you talk about losing a since of control, my husband and i would be all over that school and someone would have to hold me off those two women who did this. then i would strip search them and see how it made them feel.. this was just wrong
so what i want to be in that class i wonder if she was hot. I want to see boobies and vagina
that is sum crazy shyt i got a sister and if anything like that happen to her i would definetly kill everyone that did that to her no one cant even touch my frends i dont thinkthey would try that with my family thats sum punk ass niggas doin dat shyt i would get rid of their life
How disgusting.
Say that girl had her period and was in desperate need of pain relief and medication. She would of had to sit and suffer.
To strip search her like she was a disgusting criminal is not only disgusting, humiliating but also absolutely shocking and degrading to be asked of a minor. The teachers should be sacked ASAP.
ILLEGAL drugs should be banned, not over the counter. Medication serves a purpose.
How the fuck is taking pain medication wrong! Why should children have to sit and suffer in class.
She was accused of carrying IBUPROFEN? Oh jesus, it’s not like she was carrying coke. What if she had a headache?
It’s not like she was carrying ANYTHING at all! Sick, disgusting breach of human rights
Wtf is wrong with that f—ing school! All that over some meds! If i could i would march right into that school, grab anything that could be used as a weapon (cafiteria knifes, pens, ect.) and personally kill anyone who had anything to do with that search! except for the girl of course. deeply sorry about what happend to that girl.
For the people saying drugs like this shouldn’t be banned in schools, here’s a story.
In sixth grade one of my friends was doing drugs, and got giving someone pills on camera. 6th grades. passing pills. She swore to god it was Tylenol (I know for a fact it wasn’t)and they had no way of proving it wasn’t, but she got expelled and was no longer able to give drugs to other children anymore because of the rule against over the counter medicines.
