I am not a particular fan of scary movies.  I watched The Shining, but that’s something like a cultural necessity to live in America and seem smart.  I’ve actually seen a lot of scary movies, I just seldom enjoy them.  Maybe I like to suffer or maybe I just forget how much I hate being startled.  I can handle being scared – that’s an everyday part of life.  But being startled in a whole different ball game and that ball game sucks.  Now one of the most haunting scary movies I’ve ever seen in on a whole new format.

Starting this December 30th, now available on Blu-ray Disc from Paramount Studios Home Entertainment comes the first high definition version of one of the scariest movies to ever take place in outer space.  Event Horizon – Blu-ray Disc is ready to burst out of your television and take you to a place of horror deep inside of the black empty abyss of space.  Bring home this groundbreaking terrifying film in a brand new format today!

The Event Horizon was a scientific research ship sent out into the Cosmos to examine everything possible.  Yet is disappeared without leaving a single trace at all.  Seven years later, a weak signal appears from the Event Horizon and a rescue team sets out to board the ship and discover what happened.  Captain Miller is bringing along his team of experts, along with the ship’s designer.  No one is on the ship, at least no one alive.  Things only get stranger from there.  This film includes Laurence Fishburn, Sam Neill, Kathleen Quinlan and Joely Richardson.

The special features included in this Blu-ray presentation are an optional audio commentary from director Paul W.S. Anderson and producer Jeremy Bolt, five different and fantastic documentaries about all the aspects of making this film, a look at how this film was shot with optional director’s commentary, a selection of deleted scenes with optional director’s commentary, an as of yet unseen scene with optional director’s commentary and the original theatrical trailer in high definition.

My sophomore year of college, one of my roommates decided to rent this movie and made us all watch it on Halloween.  We closed the blinds and shut off every single light in the place so it was absolutely pitch black in that tiny dorm apartment.  The movie as a whole isn’t overwhelmingly terrifying, but there’s one part that I can still remember as vividly as can be.  Because of that part, I have never been able to think positively of Sam Neill is any role ever since I watched this film.  I enjoyed this movie because it has to do with space and science fiction and those kinds of things are just fantastic.  When you think about it, space is absolutely horrifying.  It’s like being in a rowboat in the middle of the ocean, only you have no clue what’s under the waves and have not even the slightest clue of what to expect.  I will say that this movie is what moved Laurence Fishburn into the list of my group of favorite actors, even though most of his other movies feel lacking.  This science fiction thriller is a must see, especially in this great new format.  It’s all the more terrifying now.

Don’t miss this cinematic Event.

This Blu-ray Disc is available at Amazon.com.
