By now, rational folks everywhere across the globe are disgusted by one more episode of disproportionate and excessive use of force by Israel in Gaza that has killed many innocent men, women and children and injured many.
What if anything Israel is achieving through this reckless violence but breeding another group of hopeless youths ready to take over the violent struggle of their dead comrades? ..Only time will tell if southern Israel is spared the home-made rocket attacks in future.
In the meantime, Israel continues to defy the conscience of the world and continues with the attacks..
Bush, for his part - is in no mood to stop this massacre. His evangelist soul would probably feel guilty if he stopped Israel from doing what it is doing.
Obama so far has stood behind his ‘One President at a time’ mantra but his coronation is less than two weeks away and he will have to take a position sooner or later.
One wonders if it will be business as usual ’special relationship’ with Israel or he will stand up to this heavy-handed Israeli action on the Palestinians?
Can he take an even-handed approach in the treatment of both parties of the conflict and be an honest broker to mediate peace?

I agree with your post. Obama has no reason other than an electoral one to Kowtow to Israel. And he won’t be facing an election for a while. A window of opportunity to cast the so-called special relationship with the Israeli government aside - not before time.
In short, no. It is however, time for Israel’s neighbors in the middle east, and supporters of Hamas in other parts of the world, to ask themselves just exactly what they would do if an organization dedicated to your extermination bombarded your city or town with 8,000 rockets over 3 years.
Most people in the US realize that Israel has shown tremendous restraint for many years and that the US would never have tolerated a situation like that for even a week. In fact, neither would Jordan, Syria, Egypt, France, Holland, UK, Sweden or anyplace else in the world. Get real. No one has a right to bombard their neighbors homes, schools, and markets and expect to get away with it.
If you start a war, expect the war to come back to you. Maybe, learn something from that.
What about the special relationship the US has with Saudia’a, Egypt (gets the same funding as Israel from US).
Please remember that the Islamic culture has been looking to topple the west since they were defeated 500 years ago.
My understanding is that hatred in your part of the world runs very deep….shia vs. sunnis, etc.
The Arab and Persian world has subjeced their populations to male facism, racism, brutality, Remember Mumbai???????
Israel is defending itself and has that right.
Israel forces its own people out of Gaza, helps to supply the needs of the Palestinians that have moved there, and gets rockets fired into their nation’s neighboring towns for a thank-you from them. The writer of this article, as well as many others, need to brush up on their history of Israel/Palestinian relations before calling Israel evil.
This idea of “disproportionate force” is ridiculous. How else are wars won and despots toppled and terrorists defeated?
Israel has used great restraint in dealing with Hamas. Too much for too long, IMO. I pray they will get the job done this time!
And, yes, I pray the children of the Palestinians will be safe and see that Israel has been kind to them.
