These days, folks are damned if they do, damned if they don't. Folks would be looked at with a sidelong glance if found they didn't stop to help. Some think they could even be sued if they passed on by. And yet... they could be sued for a variety of reasons if they did stop to help. I've heard of a situation where someone stopped to help someone who seemed to be in a great deal of pain. The one who stopped called 911 and an ambulance responded and took the person to the hospital. The one rescued later sued the person who stopped because her insurance would not cover the cost of the ambulance.

And folks wonder why so many do not want to get involved such as this. It's sad to think one of us might need help from a passerby one day, who may just turn their head and keep on going.

People today are afraid of getting involved in other people's business. Fear is guiding all of us in some way. I think that the worst part in the Casey Anthony case is that she told her parents from the jail that she hopes that Caylee will be found alive. In the meantime Casey has some knowledge of the death and body remains of her child and how the child's body is in the vacant lot but Casey is trying to prove that she had nothing to do with the death of Caylee so she is just trying to avoid her conviction in the death of this child. It is awful and then who knows if the truth will ever connect her and if there is evidence on the body of Caylee to connect her to Casey. It is hard to prove murder and if the chain of evidence is broken there goes the conviction of the criminal. Every thing in the investigation must be perfect to get a conviction of murder as this is the most serious crime there is and the proof must be very great to get this type of a conviction. What a shame Caylee had to die and if the child had been put out for adoption with someone else Caylee would still be alive today.

I like your parable, but even the act of calling 911 is a non-medical act that could lead to liability - at least the way that the majority justices interpret the law.
