I have always loved Dr. Suess. He died not too long ago and it was a sad day for me. I read almost all of them when I was a child. There was Sam I Am, the fox who wore socks, Marvin K. Mooney, the Grinch, the guy who saw all those wonderful things and all the others. Those were the friends I grew up with. At my high school graduation, our five valedictorians took turns reading from the good doctor’s book about all the places we would go. Now one of his best-loved books is on the big screen and ready for your screen.
Starting this December 9th, now available as a two disc special edition boxed set from Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment comes a hilariously redemptive tale from the magically wacky mind of Dr. Suess. Dr. Suess’ Horton Hears A Who! – Two Disc Special Edition is ready to burst out of your television screen and transport you to a colorful and wonderful land. Bring home this classic tale retold for you today!
Horton is an elephant who lives in the jungle and teaches young animals. One day a speck floats by him and Horton speaks to it for whatever reason. Imagine his surprise when the speck speaks back. It turns out there’s a whole world inside of the speck and Horton is determined to keep it safe. Some people in his community feel that he’s gone crazy and so set out to banish him and destroy the speck. Will Horton be able to keep it safe? This animated film stars the vocal talents of Jim Carrey, Steve Carell, Carol Burnett, Will Arnett, Seth Rogen, Jesse McCartney, Amy Poehler and Jaime Pressly.
The special features included in this two disc special edition boxed set include deleted footage and animation screen tests, a featurette on animating Horton, a look at how the different characters were brought to life and the research it took, a featurette about the hilarious character of Katie, a selection of educational and fun facts about elephants, a look at how we can make our own Speck a better place, a featurette about how all people are people, a selection of interviews with cast and crew about their characters and what they feel the movie means, a look into how the director kept the Suess look in the film, a featurette about having Jim Carrey in the voice booth and a fun memory game of Who-noises.
This is an immensely enjoyable movie. It would certainly seem that taking a fanciful Suess adventure and switching it over to film would be a tough task and the earlier live-action Suess movies certainly backed that up. Yet this film was a stunning success. It was a great treat to see how they were able to bridge the traditional material along with funny, new parts and still have it work together so well. The vocal talents of everyone involved were great and Katie was perhaps the best addition of all. I loved this movie and I’m sure you will too.
Who couldn’t love a movie this great?
