Those of us who support Voice of America over Alhura and other private broadcast entities were disheartened and dismayed at Mr. Biden's selection as Vice President. BBG has manipulated Biden's staff to increase its control over public diplomacy. The Board has created a police state mentality about transprency of its actions and activities. Mr. Lipien is correct and so are others who call for dismantling the BBG. If USIA cannot be ressurected, a panel under strict Congressional oversight should be established to watch over and lobby for VOA, RFE/RL as well as other government-backed broadcasters. If BBG members want private operations to broadcast radio and TV programs to the Middle East, they should resign their posts and acquire private, not public, funds for such purposes. The VOA should be allowed to breath free so the world can breath free as well.
