Mr. Kent,

We submit that St. Thomas Aquinas would have regarded Mr. Kung, liberation theology, and yes Vatican II itself as symptoms of the disease that is killing the Church; "the Smoke of Satan" Pope Paul VI was referring to if we're not mistaken.

Cheers,

Catholic have had a "modern" Thomas Acquinas. His name is John Paul II...have you ever read him?

As for the latest bioethics output, I agree with them. Manipulating (and killing) embryos is questionable ethically, because you are making man into your own image, in this the image of the scientist....Ubermensch, anyone?

I am not alone in this: It is an ongoing theme in thoughtful science fiction, from Frankenstein to Cordwainer Smith to Heinlein...none of whom are Catholic, and of whom only Smith could be called a Christian.

Most of the "theologians" you refer to can easily find a home in the Episcopalian church.

They are western oriented progressives, whose works have little to do with the daily lives of most Christians (who are not westerners) and less to do with helping the poor.

Even "liberation theology" resulted in FARC and Castro; but in most countries, the "Fruit" of liberation theology is a lot of dead locals and a massive conversion of locals to Pentecostal forms of Protestantism.

As for Kung, I've read his works...his problem is that he just isn't a believer in God, just in theology...pop theology. I would prefer the works of an honest agnostic to that type of claptrap.
