The historian will recognize that the original seven English kingdoms, the Heptarchy, were not unified until the Norman Conquest, in spite of Offa’s and Alfred’s best efforts.

My hope is that those of you who wrote elaborate stories as teens will find something familiar and sentimental here, and the rest of you just enjoy a ripping good yarn.
