Firms in the UK have been given a warning by a workwear supplier with regards to the dangers of asbestos exposure to employees, and have been told to ensure that their employees are provided with adequate protection against this type of exposure in buildings.
Asbestos is a potentially deadly substance and is a known carcinogenic. It can cause a range of serious health problems through long term or regular exposure, such as respiratory problems, scarring of the lungs, and even a form of cancer known as mesothelioma, which can take decades to develop from the time of exposure.
An official from the workwear provider, Arco, said: “We have a team of experts at the Bradford branch who are qualified to offer guidance on what products to buy and a testing service for respiratory equipment as well as training courses on how to wear and maintain the equipment.â€
Figures show that more than four thousand people a year are dying from asbestos related health problems, and around twenty five percent of victims are former tradesmen that have been exposed to asbestos through their day to day work, often due to lack of proper protection.
