Realistically, a good beginning is indicative of nothing.  Just because something began well does not mean it is going to finish well.  For proof of this fact, look no further than the Farrelly Brothers.  Their first movie was none other than Dumb And Dumber, one of the movies which set the standard for comic genius in the early nineties.  After that, they had some moderate hits, but nothing of the same caliber again.  And, to finish it all off, they have now come out with perhaps their least funny movie, The Heartbreak Kid.

Starting this December 16th, now available on Blu-ray Disc from DreamWorks Home Entertainment comes a Ben Stiller movie about marriage and why love sucks.  The Heartbreak Kid – Blu-ray Disc is ready to come cycling into your living room and tell you a story if you’re bored.  Bring home this tale that has some interesting talent in it.

Ben Stiller, Jerry Stiller, Michelle Monaghan, and Danny McBride star in this abysmal flick by the Farrelly Brothers.  Ben Stiller is Eddie, a life-long bachelor who always flees commitments.  But after seeing his former fiance happily married and being pressured to finally take the plunge, he marries a girl he meets on the street after knowing her for only a few month.  But once he and the at-times beautiful Lila set off for their honeymoon in Mexico, Eddie realizes that he leapt too soon.  He falls in love with another woman and, through all sorts of coincidences and misunderstandings, everything falls apart.  Throw in some graphic and unconventional sex scenes, and it’s perhaps the worst telling of the boy-meets-girl-loses-girl-gets-girl-back story of all time.  Danny McBride is hilarious, Michelle Monaghan is heartbreakingly beautiful, as usual, and it’s such a shame to see both Ben Stiller and Jerry Stiller waste their considerable talents is movie where they are left spinning their humorous tires.

The special features on this Blu-ray Disc are exactly the same as they were on the regular DVD.  The original trailer is in high definition and that’s the only thing that’s different.  That’s another reason I feel so let down by this movie.  Every other movie I’ve seen on Blu-ray has been better than it was originally and this movie proves the complete exception.

I was disappointed with this film.  I know that Ben Stiller is so much better than this movie and it’s painful to see him stuck here.  I’ll even go out on a limb and say that the Farrelly Brothers can usually do a better job than this and that this film is a disappointment.  It’s a topic that could have gone so far, but the movie just devolves into sophomoric humor and graphic depictions of a whole lot.

The Heartbreak Kid will surely break yours, not out of sympathy or hilarity, but through good old fashioned horrid movie making.  Avoid this Heartbreak at all cost.

This Blu-ray Disc is available at Amazon.com.
