rod-stewart-cover-art.jpgFeaturing two CD’s and a DVD, this set is something that should belong in everyones collection. In a career spanning six decades there are few people, unless you live in a yak skin tent in Outer Mongolia who are not familiar with this musician. That gravely voice, and the mullet hair style make Rod Stewart instantly recognizable.

I first stumbled upon Rod Stewart in 1971 when he had the smash hit Maggie May, I will admit that at the time I was not sure what to make of it, was he a one hit wonder, or was this the new wave? That question was answered the following year with his next hit You Wear It Well. Clearly this was a guy who was going to be sticking around for a while.

rodstewart2.jpgThe first CD covers the 70’s which for many, myself included, think were his most exciting years, you just never knew what he was going to come up with next.

The second CD takes us into the 80’s and 90’s, and you can see a real change in the songwriting style, it is much more polished. One only has to compare “Infatuation,” “Some Guys Have All The Luck,” “Love Touch,” “Forever Young”, to “Maggie May” or “You Wear It Well” to see how his style matured.

rodstewart1.jpgI was doing some research about Rod Stewart and it is estimated that during his career he has sold an astounding 250 million records! I like these chronologically arranged compilations, who, other than lunatic reviewers like me, sit down and listen to an artists career production in chronological order? A compilation like this one is short enough that you can bite it off in one session, but long enough to give you a real sense of just who this guy is.

The Definitive Rod Stewart is available in two versions: a standard two-CD edition and a deluxe edition that includes a bonus DVD of music videos. The collections will be available at all retail outlets, including www.rhino.com, for suggested list prices of $19.98 (standard edition), $24.98 (deluxe edition), and $14.99 (digital).

The deluxe edition includes a 14 song DVD of some of his best video’s and performances. The two CDs contain 30 previously released hits and a bonus track of a very rarely heard song Two Shades Of Blue.

Using my huge influence 🙂 OK, I grovelled a lot, you can get a sneak peak of Da Ya Think I’m Sexy and Tonight’s The Night (Gonna Be Alright).

If your local music store has sold out of The Definitive Rod Stewart, and it likely will, you can order it online, Standard Edition or Deluxe Edition.
