Gluttony, Greed, Lust, Sloth, Wrath, Envy, and Pride. These are the 7 deadly sins that up and coming Zondervan author Jeff Cook lays next to Jesus’ Beatitudes.

On the one hand you have 7 things that please the body, often times the mind but not the soul. Jesus in his honoring, the meek, poor in spirit, and humble addresses each of these carnal–even bodily–desires. His book challenges modern christians to take stock and look at what they are doing and take a new look at these deadly sins. Not only are they deadly but they really detract from the christian lifestyle.

On a philosophical note this book is chalk full of great advice, good research, and an overal neutral look at how we as humans deal with these sins. Obviously with a christian reader in mind, Jeff Cook challenges the body and the mind.

Now being Pagan usually books like this would not appeal to me but it is so philosophical and so universal it is highly recommended reading for everyone! All spiritual paths can find solace and advice in his book. I highly recommend this book, I read it right away and I was glad that I did. It even got me thinking about my own spiritual life. If you are on any spiritual path, “Seven” by Jeff Cook is required reading. Its post-modern, and its up-to-date.
