This thing with commissary accounts makes for unequal treatment as well. If you have a rich daddy you can spend $500 at a clip for extras. And who knows where this will end? Maybe next they’ll get to order other goodies like Egyptian cotton sheets and LazyBoy recliners, get mannies and peddies at the beauty shop or save up their bucks for an in-cell flatscreen?

The stuff I found on the web that repudiated any allegations for either KFN or NHLF looked like suspect, unverifiable or anonymous sources, which lead me to question their motives and accuracy.

Non-profits have to be careful of the company they keep, they need to maintain pristine and transparent records of their finances.

Neither KFN nor NLHF are listed on Charity Navigator, the BBB guide to charities, AIP or APA sites. I have other subscription resources that I am checking that deal with nfps and ngos, but when these people don’t even publish their FEIN info, IRS info or annual reports where the public can see, they make it appear like they don’t want anyone looking too closely at their activities.

I read many comments on blogs last night about people who purchased “raffle” tickets from KFN with no drawing date or legitimate contact info. That sort of stuff just isn’t done by above board charities. It’s hinky dinky.

Cecy I have seen nothing to connect Kidfinders and NLH except that they worked a charity together, doesn’t make them bedbuddies.

You’re right about the felony - for impersonating a police officer (2002 and a probation violation and guilty plea for the same in the same year.) This charge is made more creepy by the “badge” that is used on their logo on the KFN website. I have worked with both security and LE in FL and they are very touchy about badges - they want no mistake made in differentiating LE from other services, so as not to imply that other organizations are endorsed by them or operating as part of FDLE or any other official agency. Were you also able to find evidence to clear them for the alleged $500K in outstanding fraud charges?

I have read in numerous places that KidFinders has yet to “find” any missing child - from the looks of their website, they are more for promoting products designed to make kids safe. I have worked in non-profits and been on their boards - I find these folks skate the line when it comes to ethical behavior. Their association with NHLF does not paint them in a good light. I don’t notice any of the typical access to financial statement information that most reputatable non-profits publish annually for the public. In fact, I see no financial transparency attempt whatsoever on their website.
