The end of the road for Genesis was when Hackett left, that's for sure. Wind & Wuthering was the last album they did that was any good. After that Genesis went on to become nothing more than Phil Collins, and Steve Hackett went on to be Genesis on his jack jones. Hackett was the only member out of all of them who stuck by his guns regarding his musical direction, he was, and still is the only member still making prog music. The rest of them went on to churn out nothing more than 10 a penny pop songs.

To say Banks was the main writer is a total understatement, because without Hackett and Gabriel input, the band would of never sounded the the way they did, during them times up till 1977. After that the band were not even worthy of the name. I myself purchased the 1970-1975 boxset its awesome. I also managed to get hold of Trick of the Tail and Wind & Wuthering both SACD's and DTS format just like the boxset. All I want now to complete my collection is the Live albums 73 and Seconds Out in the same format. Anything after that I'm not remotely interested in, its pathetic.

Genesis were a band in the true sense of the word. All songwriters working together.
Always trying new approaches to what they did.
For me it's the 12 string guitars and the volume pedal leads that hit me hardest.
Something in the music got lost once Steve left. We missed Peter so much when he left but the next 2 records still had THAT SOUND (MAGIC)
This box set just blows me away - I feel like a kid again. I couldn't wait to get home to put the records on. I haven't stoped listening for a week now now now now now -Chris

Indeed Tony Banks has been Genesis musical soul but curiously none of his solo has been as successful as other member’s solo albums.

I would say that Banks is the critical element for Genesis music. With the creativity and originality of Gabriel and the softness of Rutherford composing made 70 – 75 period the Genesis golden musical period, with a fantastic guitar player Steve Hackett and the best drummer in the world and singer Phil Collins who have contributed more and more, in the periods after, for the great commercial success of Genesis.

Would take issue with your assertion that Peter Gabriel was the creative force within the band at this time - its a commonheld fallacy, along with the notion that Genesis abandoned all progrssive tendencies following Gabriel's departure. In fact, the musical force was always Tony Banks, he was the reason that Genesis were different (and superior to) their contemporaries! The DVD extras in this set are revealing in this respect and the set remarkable for the quality and clarity of recordings made nearly 40 years ago.
