"Some of you guys are real nerds" said Harkonnen McGee. Nice. And who said the "gom jabbar" thing ? It was deleted before I got back over here.

Andy, you've still not answered the questions, buddy.

You wrote: "It would be churlish to think that son of Frank Herbert, Brian, might be milking his father’s literary legacy with his frequent Dune based novel releases."

It would be unrealistic to believe otherwise, if you've followed this saga for the last ten years, been involved with the "official" Dune forum, got strangled on the Arrakeen forum, or are currently voicing "discontent" with the Star-Warsing of Dune at Jacurutu.com.

So on it's face, your review of Paul of Dune in any other context than a random book you picked up at the bus-stop rack is suspect. You don't know what's going on, what Dune fans think, what place this book has in the ongoing struggle to stop the destruction of Frank Herbert's Legacy.

Your claim to have read Frank's books, and therefore have some credibility in this discussion, is MORE than suspect. We could start with "Paul Arrakis".

Let's just call it like it is, Andy. You post stuff ALL over the internet, on all kinds of things that may interest you. You blog to yourself, and post links to other things that interest you. Fine and good, that's what the internet is for.

So you either did or did not read Paul of Dune, and felt compelled to post about it, like you feel compelled to post about alot of things. You were unaware of the environment in which this book was released, unaware of the controversy, because you are not a Dune fan in any sense of the word. You are not even a casual fan, just some random dude who posts alot.

So let's just admit you have no idea of what you posted about, and let's put this ugly episode behind us.

Okay, just wanted to point out, some of you guys are real nerds, and maybe should not hyperventilate so much.

That comment about "you know where you can stick your gom jabbar" was totally uncalled for, by the way.

I have read Dune and its sequels written by the man himself. In fact they are in my bookcase. Why should I come back and respond to insults and ad hominem attacks. This is especially pointless due to the fact that none of you seem to have read the whole review.

And why the nasty comments? After all I gave it a positive review. Let me quote myself. The storyline is compelling and moves along at pace.

Oh yes that might actually mean you have read the whole thing and not just jumped to conclusions. I am afraid the attacks in this thread reflect far worse on the attackers than me.

questions:

1) "the Maud’Dib aka Paul Arrakis the new Emperor of the known universe."
Who is this ? You've read "all the original books" ? Really ? And you've read this one ?

2) "As with most Dune novels it tells the tale of the intrigue, killings and non-stop warfare of the Dune universe. " Same question - you've read Frank's books ? God-Emperor of Dune, you've read this ? Or are you referring to the Star Wars Comic Book Guy's new books, of which "Paul of Dune" is the latest.

3) "What is most amusing of course is that Dune is a desert planet whose inhabitants “fremen’ are known for cruelty and vicious who are heading all over the universe spreading the jihad of the Maud’Dib." Is English a Second Language for you ? I'll let "the Maud'dib" go, that is a thing that apparently can't be stopped. My question : What, exactly, is "amusing" to you ?

4) "The storyline is compelling and moves along at pace." Compelling would be a matter of taste and education, I suppose, but how are you defining "pace" ? "at pace". What does that mean ?

5) "Needless to say if you are a fan of the series then this is quite a good read. And there is not much better science fiction out there than the Dune series." Again, which series are you talking about ? Are you lumping Frank Herbert's Dune in with the current crop of comic book preteen novels ?

Mr. Dodge ? Mr. Dodge ?

Mr. Dodge: who are you and why are you compelled to share your opinions with the world ? I've read a handful of your other "reviews" on this site, and find them all to be of the same vein: shallow, reactionary, full of misspellings, bad grammar and factual errors. Normally, or course, I would not care at all, the internets are full of pseudointellectual exhibitionists, but with your defense of this book, you have crossed over into my world. You have not read Frank Herbert's Dune. Perhaps you saw the movie or mini-series, or someone told you about it. I do not believe you have read this book, either, other than the cover blurbs, which you did not even copy and paste correctly. You are not a "reviewer" in any sense of the word, just another attention-seeker with a keyboard, internet connection and pretentious false user name. Blah.
