You have very valid points, but you have missed an important one: Sellers who lie about the condition of an item. I hate being lied to, and if an item was listed as New and was not disclosed in the auction description as smelling of smoke, I will leave negative feedback and an extremely low DSR. Any item that reeks of smoke is NOT new. I never bid on smokey items. Want to avoid negative feedback and terrible DSR's, Sellers? Then never, ever lie to a Buyer!

I would like to believe everything over the net is safe. However the truth is where there is a will there is way. I went to a few Alcohol rehab centers for my drug addiction which were all suppose to confidential and sure enough I found them on my personal history on the net. I was nothing short of shocked. Knowing this I found that nothing was private that was put on the web. So the last thing I do if I can avoid it is put any financial information on the web.

Don't overbid on optimism
What eBay fail to analyze is that their policies and changes are not gear to help their core supporters, the sellers! We the sellers are the ones that make the money for ebay, the direct consequence is very simple we the sellers are no listing as many items as we once did, because the Sellers fees are used to staff programs geared to prevent sellers from selling on Ebay, the coveted Best Match search is fatally flawed, it list the most expensive items first –hence making more money for ebay, if they sell- We can't believe that eBay is using Their coveted ‘Best Match” search engine, As their vehicle for a better buyer experience! The reason most sellers are switching to fixed priced sales is because their merchandise is getting buried in the "Best Match" black hole.
The only reason auctions have gone out of favor is because ebay has relegated them to the bottom of the barrel and cater to big ticket uninteresting and overpriced things, which for the most part DO NOT SELL, but ebay still gets their insertion fee.
Ebay imposes a policy that cuts deeply into sellers pockets, violates the Bill of Rights, and makes it harder to do business, Sellers are only allow to leave positive feedback, turning feedback into a senseless, one way only, extortion ridden tool, the feedback, which sellers cultivate for years, means nothing now.
The new mandatory Paypal rules are so bogus-- and smack of restraint of trade. They tried this in Australia and lost. Who ever heard of a venue outlawing checks, MO or legal tender? Ebay owns Paypal and with listing fees, final value fees and Paypal fees it's double-dipping on a sale.

Take this mandatory Paypal rule. It has poor security, and now Ebay wants us to only use that payment system? It would be like going into a Sears to buy a lawnmower with cash or a check and told 'we only accept Sears credit cards.' It's madness.
Ebay flourished as people sold off Aunt Tilly's silver set or Uncle Waldo's Elvis records.
The Best Buyer Experience is coming to eBay To find great products at great prices! Buyers come to eBay to find a bargain, Buyers come to eBay to experience the eBay That wants to offers the best deals in the internet! But now eBay default search systems, List more expensive items first with total disregard of ending times or pricing These changes are causing a tremendous Decrease on sales with the direct consequence Of a decrease on the number of successful listings.
The DSR system is another failure, the feedback rating is not based on a 100 point scale, For example, from 1 to 5, 1 is poor, 3 is average and 5 is excellent. With ebay, 4,5 is average and 5 is good! Consequently making the seller looks bad, For this reason, good sellers offering great service and products are being suspended from ebay by record numbers, this cuts the core business at ebay Unfortunately, Ebay management become so enraptured with its tale of its own brilliance that they thought they could afford to batter and bleed the sellers over and over again, forever. Ebay Stock was $30-$32 less than a year ago and yesterday dropped to $9.91 Since the new management took over, it dropped every quarter as can be tracked from any stock quote chart. A year ago, EBay said it would reduce listing fees and make selling standards more stringent to attract buyers, on the contrary sellers are listing less not only that but the smart ones sold their ebay stock! It won’t be too long to see ebay stock fall to $6 or less, Ebay is pushing away its partners, sellers and buyers, it is only going to make profit softer and push away investors, as ebay CEO said “We didn’t gain ground, but we didn’t lose any.” Let us see if he can say the same in this coming summer. I would also not want to answer to shareholders when they learn what long time sellers and buyers have seen in the past few months. No seller in their right mind would build a business on a platform that would suspend them with absolutely no warning at any time for poorly defined and implemented rules that change constantly.
Now, at least I know my experience is not a personal one. Ebay's own statistics show a thing no one would have believed 2-3 years ago: A decline!

Everyone is quick to point to the current economy when discussing the dramatic decline at eBay.

eBay however, has no excuse to hide behind the economy declining curtain, except for the fact the CEO is unwilling to admit he has led the marketplace down the wrong path.

Draconian policies and failing infrastructure combined with search that returns irrelevant results, and the worlds worst customer service has been slowly bringing eBay down for years. Enter Mr Donahoe and his "new coke - green ketchup - disruptive innovation' plan for eBay, and the skids of failure received a thick, fresh layer of grease.

Ebay has historically out performed the brick and mortar retail segment as well as the stock market during past recessions. When times got tough, buyers used to flock to eBay in search of incredible deals on unique items as well as scoop up second hand goods to help stretch their dollar.

Then came John Donahoe, the killer of small sellers, the eBay suicide king, leader of the gang that could not shoot straight. Under Mr Donahoe's leadership, eBay is being converted into a high priced shopping mall at the very time that consumers are looking for low priced goods.

Mr Donahoe's choice to eviscerate the core of eBay by purging small sellers could not have come at a worse time. eBay's quarterly reports are dismal and it's stock price which has seen its value drop by 2/3 since Donahoe assumed control, sinks to a new low almost every week.

This decline at eBay started to set in long before the economy displayed signs of recession.

Ebay has always offered the worlds worst customer service, recent staffing cuts have served to exacerbate this problem.

Ebay has alienated buyers with forced search methods that do not return what buyers want to see.
The failed Best Match does not allow buyers to search, but instead shows buyers what eBay has determined they want buyers to see.

eBay has alienated buyers with the forced PayPal only payment plan that prevents sellers from stating they accept personal checks and money orders for payment.

Sellers that pay to place listings see those paid listings deliberately disadvantaged in placement in favor of a class of Diamond sellers that pay nothing to list items.

eBay has further alienated sellers with a draconian DSR policy which is not the tool promised to help sellers improve. Instead, it turns out that DSR's are really a weapon pointed at sellers heads that delivers automated account suspensions.

Sellers are frustrated by eBay's failure to address the increasing frequency of non paying bidders. NPB activity has increased since implementation of the one way feedback policy. The issue continues to
be ignored as eBay profits from re listing of unpaid merchandise.

While we are at it, let's not forget that eBay arbitrarily terminated most all of their affiliates with no notice.
Executives want to blame drastic traffic reductions on the economy, but they need to examine their own significant role in cutting traffic and re examine their choice to eliminate affiliates.

EBay further alienates both buyers and sellers with a crumbling IT infrastructure that is subject to rolling 'glitches' on an almost daily basis. Glitches that effect payments, shipping, searching, access to funds, correct payment information, delayed revenue transfers and others cause buyers and sellers alike to give up on the company that since laying off 1500 employees, suddenly can't get anything right anymore.

As eBay continues to deteriorate, they have become less of a venue. They now want to dictate every facet of a sellers business from retail pricing and fixed shipping costs to what kind of feedback sellers are permitted to leave buyers. EBay cannot get anything right, yet they dictate what sellers must do. So much for the claim of being a venue.

Mr Donahoe and his team need to be accountable for their actions and stop hiding behind false, deceptive and misleading public relations statements. For example, stop telling people its a fee decrease when sellers end up paying higher fees.

Mr Donahoe and the rest of his executive leadership team keep their heads buried firmly in the sand. They only pull them out for the occasional press release to parrot Donahoe's claims that "all is well" and "everything is proceeding according to plan", while ignoring the roof that is obviously falling in around them.

Add the fact that as the marketplace crumbles, eBay continues to steadily increase fees and it is no wonder why so many sellers have opted to migrate to other marketplaces and open their own web sites.

This company is failing on every level. Emperor Donahoe continues to fiddle as eBay burns.

Will shareholders step in and call for the removal of eBay's current failing leadership or is John Donahoe the next poster child for failed CEO's?

All of these abuses that you hear about by Ebay and Paypal....Do you think they would occur if they were regulated by banking authorities - OF COURSE NOT! These people should be in jail for the crime of operating and outright robbing people. It's as simple as that.

ATTENTION: PAYPAL IS NOT A BANK!
Before you read any further, you must completely understand that fact! I sympathize completely with all of you sellers who have been robbed by dishonest buyers who've taken your merchandise and then also taken back their payment for it...and all of you buyers who've had your personal financial information taken by dishonest sellers. All of these illegal acts have been enabled and facilitated by Paypal and eBay.

Paypal holds your money for days and weeks - yet it doesn't pay you interest. A bank must pay interest by law, as regulated by the Federal banking authorities. Paypal can take money out of your personal checking/banking account. Banks can only do this with a Court order. WHEN 'THREATENED' IN THE UK, AS WELL AS IN AUSTRALIA, TO BE REGULATED UNDER THOSE COUNTRIES' BANKING LAWS, PAYPAL TURNED TAIL AND RAN, REGISTERING THEIR 'SERVICE' IN LUXEMBOURG.

You may post messages on these great and informative blogs, a public service in themselves. This is all well and good and serves to help one somewhat feel better over your losses at the hands of the Paypal and eBay thieves. But afterwards, and it only takes a few minutes, write your congressman, or write the banking authorities. Regardless of your party affiliation - we're all Americans and we need this to be done for all of our good, you can write Senator Charles Schumer from New York State (he's already received more than a few) or write Representative Barney Frank of Massachusetts. New York Attorney General, Andrew Cuomo, is attuned to help consumers and definitely would like the chance to expose the deceptive practices of both Paypal and Ebay. Write and ask why is it that Paypal can operate as a bank without being regulated as a banking institution. Just this Friday, November 7th, Senator Christopher Dodd of Connecticut, gave a news conference on how banks/financial institutions should be "looked into" as to the consumers' rights not be violated. he also would be an excellent choice to write to and inform him of your struggles with Paypal - more so, how Paypal can operate handling large sums of money and NOT pay interest. It is wrong! You can always write the SEC, the FDIC, the federal banking authorities and ask them to look into it. Demand that Paypal be regulated by United States banking laws. All of this thievery perpetrated by this now-bogus service will then all be held accountable. It's simple and would immediately cause a beneficial change. Just write that note. It only takes a minute and will accomplish so much! Remember: PAYPAL IS NOT A BANK - UNDERSTAND THAT FACT - it must be corrected!

It is laughable how Paypal moved quickly in reference to this eCheck scam business. Big deal - THEY STILL HAVE NO RIGHT TO GO INTO YOUR BANK ACCOUNT, HOLD MONEY WITHOUT PAYING YOU INTEREST, AND GO UNREGULATED BY US BANKING LAWS. THEY DO NOT GUARANTEE THE SAFETY OF YOUR MONEY THAT THEY HOLD. IF THERE IS ANY SORT OF LEGAL ACTION AGAINST PAYPAL AND THEIR ACCOUNTS ARE TIED UP, THERE WOULD BE NO RECOURSE FOR YOU, THE BUYERS/SELLERS, TO GET YOUR MONEY BACK. Ask PAYPAL: "Is my money insured and safe AND by what guarantee?" They could not give you an honest answer! Imagine that!!!! I'm sorry to shout - but it is a terrible thing how the scam artists of EBAY and PAYPAL are allowed to illegally run roughshod over us Americans and steal our money...be it five cents or thousands of times that.

Ask PAYPAL: “Is my money insured and safe AND by what guarantee?” They could not give you an honest answer! Imagine that!!!! I’m sorry to shout - but it is a terrible thing how the scam artists of EBAY and PAYPAL are allowed to illegally run roughshod over us Americans and steal our money…be it five cents or thousands of times that.
