The tainted food scandal of China has now spread from milk to other foods.
In Hong Kong, eggs from northern China tested positive for Melamine. The Hong Kong Heatlh commissioner says that he suspects that animals have been fed melamine contaminated food, resulting in higher than normal levels of the chemical in the eggs.
But if this scenerio is true, that means other animal products might be contaminated. As a result, various meat products from China will be tested for melamine levels.
One of the side effects of the milk contamination, however, is that manufacturers that use the milk products have found their own products contaminated.
Here in the Philippines, a cracker manufactured in the Philippines has been found to have high levels of Melamine, presumably from either eggs or more likely the milk ingredients.
Here in Asia, governments are busy testing and warning the public about an ever growing list of dangerous foods.
The bad news is that smuggling of the contaminated products, or reselling them by street vendors with a different or no label is an on going worry.

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a TrackbackMaybe you remember the specifics, but I remember a snigglet of news from Europe which brought the tale of plastic in the plankton or perhaps shrimp. The article went on to theorize on the possiblity of an entire food chain being part plastic through ingestion of waste plastics. Lovely thought, but it is dinner time here.
The thing that we have to keep in mind is that the labor is cheap–who cares about the product?
Food processed in the U.S. has Chinese ingredients, I have confirmed in emails from Kellogs, Nestle’s, Americas Beverages, Cadbury, and many more. If the food is processed in the U.S. with chinese ingredients they can still claim MADE IN THE USA on their labels, most of your processed chicken and other foods and meats are slaughtered here and sent to China for processing. What are the chances of (A) Them sending back different chicken or meats than the ones sent, or (B) the food was processed with MELAMINE.
Write or call your Congressman now and ask them to STOP all food and drink ingredients from communist China.
