Denis Leary, the star of ‘Rescue Me’ has zeroed out with his attack on autism. He has caused anger and astonishment when his new book, ‘Why We Suck: A Feel-Good Guide to Staying Fat, Lazy, and Stupid,’ launched an attack on parents, carers and children with autism.
Leary wrote in his book: ‘There is a huge boom in autism right now because inattentive mothers and competitive dads want an explanation for why their dumb-ass kids can’t compete academically, so they throw money into the happy laps of shrinks…to get back diagnoses that help explain away the deficiencies of their junior morons. I don’t give a s— what these crackerjack whack jobs tell you—yer kid is not autistic. He’s just stupid. Or lazy. Or both.’
Autism is a very serious health issue. Denis Leary has failed to understand the disorder by making a sweeping statement on autism in his book. He blames inattentive mothers and competitive dads - Leary should spend some time with a family with autism to try and understand the condition and the struggles both parents and children have to go through in life.
Parents and people with autism are sending out a loud and clear message to Denis Leary: ‘Autism is no joke.’

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a TrackbackDenis Leary you are not only very misinformed but as inhumane as anyone can get. You are blessed to have a flourishing career (?) and hopefully children that are without disabilites.
I am the Mother of a 29 year old Autistic man and not on the high end of the disorder either.
The pain and anguish that a parent feels is beyond words. Even with early intervention Robert functions at an extremely low level.
Inattentive mothers ? Competitive fathers ?
Try a mother who broke her ass working nights to keep up with her child’s needs during the day and a father who hit the boulevard because he could not deal with a disabled child.
I always admired you as a performer and the support you give the NYFD. I have lost all respect for you and really would love to meet you face to face some day. You make me puke.
Who gives a glob of snot what an idiot thinks, does or claims to know. If he has nothing more to run his despisable mouth about than to insult the illness of others, he needs to go straight to hell. Hurting others verbally is every bit as bad as those who abuse people physically. There is no disguise for ignorance. Best wishes, Parent, and keep up the good work!
my son is 5 yrs old and has autism in no way is my baby stupid how dare you make such a statement you should be ashamed to say something so horrible. i hope you rot in hell. i used to watch your show all the time but now i hope you lose your contract. way to go dipshit! tracy turner
