The Conservatives did not gain the seats they wanted in Quebec, and Gilless Duceppe is already speaking out Quebec demands from Ottawa. “I am open to all proposals, which I will judge on the basis of Quebec’s interests,” he said before also saying he would demand another $820 MILLION dollars on TOP if the annual transfers Quebec already receives. The province of Quebec already gets  equalization payments.

Quote :Federal transfer program that allows all provinces, regardless of their ability to raise revenue, to provide roughly comparable levels of services at roughly comparable levels of taxation. Eligibility to receive equalization funding is determined by a formula measuring each province’s revenue-raising capacity against a five-province standard. Currently, eight provinces receive equalization: Newfoundland, Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Quebec, Manitoba, Saskatchewan and British Columbia.

From the CTV website, “Based on its population, Quebec will get $919 million of that amount, just shy of one-third of the transfers allocated to the provinces in Finance Minister Jim Flaherty’s Budget 2007″. That amount is roughly 1/3 of the TOTAL amunt of money for transfers, just for Quebec. And there are, how many provinces? The figures for 2008 have, so far, been difficult to find but I see no reason for that number to have declined. If anything it has increased. Last year the figure was set at $16 BILLION over 3 years. When the Bloc learned of this they had this to say, “The Bloc and Parti Québécois vowed yesterday to use the billions in new federal transfers to Quebec to fight for the province’s secession from Canada”.  If that is the case why are spending billions MORE on the bilinqual fiasco? Why are we sending ANY money there at all?

As a Canadian taxpayer we are, in general, a very tolerant people and don’t like to cause too much of a fuss. We tend to just got about our business and for the most part not bother anyone. But excuse me, how much do I have to bend over and take it for something I don’t need, don’t want, and doesn’t do anything for me? I think it’s time the rest of Canada spoke up and said no, no more. Either go, or stay. Quebec should be JUST another province. We are all “special” in our own way. As far as I’m concerned Mr Duceppe should just be a Premier just as Mr Layton is. They represent a province. Mr Layton does not have a party or a place in the house of commons. The same is true for all the other premiers. How this came to pass is another story, and a longer more complicated one. And we can thank a Quebecor for that too. But that’s something for another time. Right now, we need to think of our future. And what’s best for us, for CANADA, and that’s all Quebec does, for itself.

Sean McAllister is just a taxpayer, being told to “fermez-et prenez-le”.
