<description>I voted in Lake County, Montana for the last twenty years. Lake County is on the Flathead Reservation. I did see in the last eight years how the tension at the polling place has grown.
Acorn type tactics have been used in the last few years to get the Democrat vote out. Supposedly "helping" Nursing home residents to cast their absentee ballots, job corp residents who showed up at the polls only to be told that they had already voted absentee (they claimed that they had not! They said that someone had them sign ballots, but they didn't know what it was for or that it would mean that they can't vote on their own.) And buying votes. The Republicans have not had anything similar going on.
Democrat poll watchers mark everyone off their copy of the registration that comes in, Democrat or Republican. It's unnerving, knowing that some in tribal leadership have threatened the jobs, land, and irrigation rights of those that disagree with them. Off the reservation, you might not be aware this happens. But on the reservation, the residents are aware. So it doesn't feel good to have the poll watchers marking off your name as you come in.
The idea that that this type of thing could be happening on other districts wouldn't surprise me.
