You have to look at his body language and gestures as well. The combination of the words and the dismissive gesture was offensive - the sort of thing that a teacher might do to a naughty child in class. McCain's contempt for his opponent was unpleasant - not a big deal, but "that one McCain" ain't as nice as he would like us to believe! There is nothing offensive in the words McCain used.
