When newspapers started collecting in the driveway of the two-story beige home on Como Lane in the upscale Porter Ranch neighborhood about 30 miles northwest of downtown Los Angeles the neighbors started noticing that there had been no activity around it also, so someone finally notified police.

When the Los Angeles police finally entered the home they were not expecting to find what they found. The horrible scene was made up of six family members fatally shot in an apparent murder- suicide which police believe was committed by an unemployed father that was in a financial crisis.

With a gun clutched in his hand police found the body of 45 year old Karthik Rajaram. They followed a path which led them to the gruesome discovery of the other victims, mostly found in their own beds. The others included his wife, three sons and his mother in law.

Los Angeles Police Department Deputy Chief Michael Moore described the scene as “Absolute devastation”

A suicide note and a letter to his friends along with a will was found and the investigators determined that Rajaram held a master’s degree and once worked for Price Waterhouse Coopers which is a major accounting firm for Sony Pictures. Apparently he had been unemployed for several months and he was having some major financial difficulties.

“This is a perfect American family behind me that has absolutely been destroyed,” said Moore. “It is critical to step up and recognize we are in some pretty troubled times.”

In the suicide note he wrote that he felt he only had two options. One was to kill himself or to kill himself and his family and he decided the second option was more honorable. His wife was 39, his mother in law, Indra Ramasesham was 69 and his three sons were 19, 12 and 7. All the victims were shot in the head and some were shot multiple times.

It is sad that this kind of thing happens to people in hard times. I would hate to see this happen to everyone when times get rough though. This man took the lives of 5 innocent people along with him because he had financial problems. Someone, somewhere out there could have helped this family with a little research I am sure. There was just no need for something like this to have happened. My heart goes out to anyone that feels this down.
