Holiday Gift Set

I love Thanksgiving.  It’s probably my second-favorite holiday, right after Christmas.  It’s the only time of the year I can be a glutton and not feel too bad about it.  Thanksgiving is also the most American on all the holidays, simply because we sit around and eat far too much food while other countries starve, we celebrate our friendship with a people group we committed genocide against and then the next day we go out and spend money we don’t have on stuff we don’t need.  All we need are some explosions and it’s America to the max.  But don’t get me wrong – I love turkey.  Now there’s a new DVD out about some hilarious adventures around the Thanksgiving holiday.

Starting this September 23rd, now available on DVD from Bagdasarian Productions and Paramount Studios Home Entertainment comes a fantastic collection of holiday specific episodes from your favorite gang of friendly rodents.  Alvin And The Chipmunks – Alvin’s Thanksgiving Celebration is ready to burst into your living room with holiday excitement and take you on fantastic journeys into the land of fun.  Bring home this modern classic today!

This disc about the continuing holiday adventures of Alvin and the gang contains four episodes – “A Chipmunk Celebration”, “Food For Thought”, “Cookie Chomper III” and “Dave’s Getting Married.”  In “A Chipmunk Celebration,” Alvin convinces Theodore and Simon to sign up for a community play about Thanksgiving, but then they all get nervous they won’t do well when they actually have to perform.  In “Food For Thought,” Theodore is almost failing at class at school, but Simon learns that he needs to eat to learn!  In “Cookie Chomper III,” all the chipmunks find a cat that was in an accident and so they adopt it to help it get better.  In “Dave’s Getting Married,” Dave is all set to get married and the gang is excited about it until they meet his fiancée’s children.

Unfortunately, there are no special features included in this disc beyond full screen format and stereo sound.

I think it’s somewhat of the kitsch factor that makes these episodes so wonderful to watch.  It’s taking a piece of the past, a hilarious and gloriously clever part, and bringing it into the present.  With retro being the rage these days, it couldn’t be a better time to bring out the Chipmunks and reintroduce them to a world that could use a great laugh right about now.

With this DVD around, there will be scads of Thanksgiving!

This DVD is available at Amazon.com.
