I'd go nuts trying to make a list like this, but I'm glad you did. What a fun read this morning.

Thank you for your comment, Susan, as it opens a subject I need to expound upon. Once I had the idea of the 31 nights of movies in chronological order, the weeding process became a real challenge, and I know a lot of the choices just happen to be my own. I expect that every monster movie fan will question some of my selections, and that's where the fun really begins. I cannot tell you how many adjustments I made before settling on the final list! As far as your questions go, I decided to begin and end with vampires because not only are they my favorite, but my guess is that they are the favorite classic monsters of the largest number of fans. Many great classics had to be left on the cutting room floor. I hope everyone has as much fun with the list as I did researching it!

Floyd, I appreciate that you include Christopher Isherwood's Frankenstein: The True Story (not his title, by the way), but why not Karloff's 1931 original and its Bride</i.? You seem to offer the riches of Dracula but not the best there is of his monster partner. Movie viewers might enjoy getting to know the full story in my book, Frankenstein: A Cultural History -- and I'll enjoy a few of these flicks you suggest in this witching season. -- sth
