A school bus carrying four of their special needs elementary school students was involved in a fatal accident Friday about 3 pm on U.S. 24 west of Logansport about 70 miles north of Indianapolis.

On a rural northern Indiana highway one dump truck was behind a moped that suddenly slowed down and stopped. The driver of the dump truck tried to stop  but he clipped the school bus coming from the opposite direction which caused it to flip to its side and then it slid into the path of a second dump truck which slammed into it hitting it on the roof. The bus then slid into a ditch.

The driver of the bus, Debbie Duvall, was airlifted to a hospital in Fort Wayne with serious injuries but there is no word as of yet about her present condition. The four student were the only passengers on the bus at the time and all fo9ur were killed.

The county Coroner, Gene Powlen, arrived at the scene shortly after the crash and described it as a grim scene. “The victims are everywhere,” he said.

A statement issued by Twin Lakes School Corporation Superintendent Thomas Fletcher said, “It saddens the Twin Lake School community to report the death of four of our students involved in a school bus accident today.”

The names of the students were not released. Fletcher said, “We are doing the best we can to help (their families) at this time.”

My heart and prayers go to the families of these children.
