Tonight is the 2008 debut of The Great Forest Park Balloon Race. The race, hosted by Energizer, has been a big event for St. Louisans in the past. This year marks the 36th anniversary of the event, which is sure to be a continued and well-loved tradition in the area.

The festivities kick off with the balloon glow, a walk through event, beginning at 7pm and ending with a fireworks display at 9pm. The balloon glow will be held in the central field near the Jewel Box. The balloon glow will display the hot-air balloons lit up by their burners, and will give attendees the opportunity to see a balloon close up.

The race will also be held on the central field on Saturday beginning at 4:30pm with the Energizer hot hare lift-off. The actual festivities will begin on Saturday at 12pm and end at 6:30pm. The day’s events include pony rides, children’s activities, food, shows, and a photo contest. The event is free and open to the public.

Note: In case of rain, the race will be held on Sunday, September 21st. A list of scheduled events can be found here. The 2009 race will be held September 18-20th.
