Girls eat more junk-food than boys, says a survey of children and parents conducted by dried fruit firm Whitworths. Junk-foods, which are rich in sugars but are of low nutritional value, are preferred more by girls than boys. Junk-foods have very high caloric value and it does not help us to maintain a balanced diet. Eating more junk-food items can lead obesity in humans.
Boys and girls are estimated to spend nearly 2 billion pounds on these food items every term, with girls spending more money on junk-foods than boys. Health experts in United Kingdom fear that if this craze for junk-food continues, it may lead to an obesity crisis in the country. Some estimates say that, more than one million people in United Kingdom will be overweight by the year 2010, with the girls topping the charts.
