According to a recent report a new fund is to be introduced in the UK that could help many asbestos disease sufferers who have been exposed to the potentially deadly substance indirectly, such as through a relative that worked with asbestos or through living near to a factory that dealt with asbestos products.

The fund is due to come into force on the 1 st October this year, and could see many people that are unable to claim directly from employers, such as those affected indirectly, being able to get compensation of up for fourteen thousand pounds (nearly twenty eight thousand dollars).

Under the new scheme dependents of indirect asbestos sufferers may also be able to claim up to six thousand pounds, equivalent to almost twelve thousand dollars. Details of the government run fund were released at the recent Barrow Asbestos Related Diseases Support group.

One industry official welcomed the new scheme, stating: “It is vital there is something there for people who, through no fault of their own, have been infected with one of the worst industrial diseases known to man.”
