The recent attacks by the loony liberal Left on the religious beliefs of Republican vice presidential candidate Gov. Sarah Palin of Alaska have been – not surprisingly, considering their source – deplorable and indicative of a spirit of desperation.

The Obama campaign, his mainstream media surrogates, and Leftwing bloggers – essentially all on the Left – have paraded themselves as absolutely terrified of this “pit bull with lipstick” and have resorted to the characteristic Leftist modus operandi of never-the-facts-just-personal-attacks.
Seeing the wheels slowly but surely falling off their election wagon, the Left – in its fear and loathing of Palin, as well as its typical vileness, shamelessness, hypocrisy, and indecency – has childishly begun attacking the person rather than debating the facts.

King Solomon declared in Ecclesiastes 1:9 (NKJV), “[T]here is nothing new under the sun,” and so it is with the persecution of Sarah Palin.

In other words, Palin is being persecuted not because she is a conservative politician. Not because she is on the cusp of becoming vice president of the United States. Not because she is a woman. Not because she is the mother of a Down’s Syndrome baby or because she has an adolescent daughter in need of both correction and love or because she is a hockey mom who is also a career woman.

Sarah Palin is being persecuted because she is a Christian.

In Matthew 5:10-12, Jesus admonished His devout followers: “Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake… . Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for My sake. Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven…”

He went on to say in Matthew 10:22, 24-25:

“And you will be hated by all for My name’s sake. …A disciple is not above his teacher, or a servant above his master. It is enough for a disciple that he be like his teacher, and a servant like his master. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebub [a Philistine deity associated with the devil], how much more will they call those of his household!”

Jesus Himself – God in flesh – was accused of being the devil and having His power granted by Satan rather than God the Father. Because He spoke and taught absolute truth, attempted to return a nation to its original godly heritage, did not conform to other people’s religious and social expectations, and threatened certain people’s lock on – and lust for – national power and control, He too was hated and hounded even though all that He spoke and did were for the temporal and eternal benefit of His people and nation.

Sarah Palin’s Christian faith is grounded in the traditions of the Pentecostal/Assembly of God denomination, whose theology is Bible based, conservative (i.e., it holds to a proper Bible-as-God’s-Word view of Scripture rather than a liberal, Bible-as-human-interpretation view), acknowledges the divinity and uniqueness of Jesus Christ, and is practiced by adherents whose profession (the talk) matches their expression (the walk). Interdenominational disagreements over things such as speaking in tongues have always existed and will never cease, regardless of denomination, but such disagreements do not necessarily invalidate a given denomination or suggest some toxic offensiveness to be feared by others.

Furthermore, from a Biblical perspective, Palin’s previous pastor was morally correct – even Scripturally bound – to question the support by professing Christians of 2004 Democrat presidential candidate Sen. John Kerry because of his liberal, un-Scriptural positions on moral and social issues – positions also maintained by Barack Obama that likewise call into question his support from professing Christians.

But for devout believers like Sarah Palin, who practice their faith publicly – irrespective of their “secular” job –
Jesus further admonished in Matthew 10:27-28:

“Whatever I tell you in the dark, speak in the light; and what you hear in the ear, preach on the housetops. And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. But rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.”

Sarah Palin’s present trials should come as no surprise. Their occurrence was forecast thousands of years ago. Because of her outspoken and publicly practiced Christian faith, as opposed to mere religious rhetoric only, her sufferings can be endured by faith in the sovereignty of an all-powerful God and His Son. Whether Palin becomes vice president of the United States (an event very likely to happen) or not is not the issue, nor will it be the ultimate measuring line of her success.

Just as human and demonic elements raised their hand against Jesus 2,000 years ago over His “Biblical correctness,” today’s Left – operating in the same blindness and vileness – will raise their cacophonous cabal of confusion, only to showcase their own ignorance, insecurity, desperation, and fear.

But through it all, Sarah Palin, persecuted for righteousness’ sake, will be protected, and many eyes will be opened to the truth.
