Baby Mama

I think Tina Fey is outrageously attractive.  She’s pretty, she wears glasses, she has a self-deprecating sense of humor and she’s incredibly smart.  What’s not to be attracted to?  I know some people don’t think she’s good looking at all, which is nothing short of crazy.  I might not always be wild about her television show, but I’m always wild about her.  Now there’s a chance for you to get in on that action too!

Starting this September 9th, now available on DVD from Universal Studios Home Entertainment comes a story of children, friendship and maybe even a second chance.  Baby Mama is ready to be birthed right into the middle of your living room and bring with it a world of hilarious.  Bring home this outrageous and sensitive comedy today!

Tina Fey plays Kate, a successful business woman who now wants to kids.  John Hodgeman, hilarious as her OB/GYN, says that she’ll never be able to have kids due to a T-shaped uterus.  So Kate goes to an agency which specializes in surrogate mothers run by the creepy and outrageous Sigourney Weaver and gets hooked up with Angie, played with great aplomb by Amy Poehler.  But Angie left her husband and now must live with Kate and there’s a clash of the titans inherent in that.  Throw in Greg Kinnear as Kate’s love interest and Steve Martin as the ultimate New-Age boss and this movie is a winner.

The special features included in this DVD are a selection of deleted scenes which did not make the final cut of the movie, an alternate ending, a featurette about the making of this film, from the first idea to the final cut, interviews with Tina Fey and Amy Poehler about making the film and an optional audio commentary with director Michael McCullers, producer Lorne Michaels, Amy Poehler and Tina Fey.

I was shocked by how enjoyable this movie was.  The trailer was completely inaccurate as to what the main thrust of this movie really is.  It’s sad that studios feel they must market all their movies as though the main movie audiences are 12 year old boys who will drink three cans of Amp and fart non-stop throughout the film.  This was an emotionally involving story that was still completely hilarious.  Of all the dramadies (drama/comedy – I made it up myself) I’ve seen lately, this is the film which straddles that line with the most sincerity and success.  Amy Poehler is fantastic, Tina Fey is magnificent and the whole movie exceeds far beyond expectations.  I recommend this film without reservation.

It’s a good one, Baby.
