In a staggering act of political and environmental insensitivity, the Democratic Party threw 12,000 American flags left over from their convention in Denver into the garbage during the cleanup of Invesco Field, where Barack Obama spoke before a flag-waving crowd.
According to a Denver Post blogger, the flags were en route to a landfill when one of the cleanup workers realized what was happening. The worker, whose name is not yet known, turned the flags over to local Republicans, hoping to save them. Local Republican officials say that the flags will be used at a McCain-Palin rally today in Colorado Springs, and that the Republicans will see to it that the flags are properly re-used or respectfully destroyed.
Flags can be properly disposed of by following the regulations of the US Flag Code. Local VFW posts and American Legion posts are always glad to help with flag disposal, as are most local Boy Scout troops. Flags should be re-used, stored for future re-use, or be ceremonially destroyed rather than being thrown into the garbage.
It is never acceptable to simply throw the flag into the garbage. To throw 12,000 flags into the garbage is an act of the profoundest disrespect for the American flag, and to the veterans who fought and died under that banner.

UPDATE: Fox News is reporting that it was a vendor who discovered the flags, not a cleanup worker.
UPDATE: The Democrats claim those flags were going to be used for other events, and were stolen by the McCain campaign. (I’ll look forward to seeing the filed police report.) Left unsaid by the Democrats is why flags intended for use at other events were being stored “in and near” trash cans.

When a U.S. flag is so worn it is no longer fit to serve as a symbol of our country, it should be destroyed by burning in a dignified manner. Most American Legion Posts, VFW Chapters and Boy Scout Troops regularly conduct dignified flag burning ceremonies, often on Flag Day, June 14th. It’s amazing. The Repubs throw out the emotional chum and their minions eat it right up. This has nothing to do with the real issues that affect out lives, but it’s always been the Repub strategy to make people think with their hearts and not their heads.

Who said anything about delegates? But the Obama campaign is responsible for the campaign event, and people on that campaign evidently didn’t think that it was important to ensure that our nation’s symbol was treated with respect.
You can attempt to spin this all day long, Lonewolf, but the facts are brutally clear. Thousands of flags were tossed into the trash because the Obama campaign didn’t think they were important. Karl Rove didn’t make the Obama camp do that. George Bush didn’t use his mystical power to brainwash the Obama campaign’s staff members.

The proper treatment of the US Flag used to be taught in our PUBLIC schools, because it was that important. I suppose they stopped doing this, too, when they told God to take a hike? Priceless. Are we better off now without God than we were with Him? Are we better off now without respect for our neighbors than when we were our neighbors keepers? (In the sense that we looked out for one another.)
It is sad to see my beloved country so divided by politics, but some people just don’t know how to live without it. They rely too heavily on the gov’t, rather than being the MEN they could be if they would only shoot for the stars.

Herbz-Why do you think the state of Illinois has to enact legislation called, The Born Alice Act. It required physicians to provide medical care to babies born alive after a botched abortion. Prior to the enactment of this law, babies born alive were left to die. Oh-one more question-do you know the ONLY member of the Illinois legislture who voted against this act- Yep- Barak Hussein Obama. You still want him running the country?

The photo looks so staged. The flags have never been used. They are stilled rolled up and rubber banded. It looks like the “vendor” reported by “faux news” probably stole property. “Faux News” reports, “The vendor supposedly found trash bags full of flags in and near garbage bins”. There is a big differnce between in and near and the word “supposedly” means the facts reported may or may not be true. The GOP has lied and spun the news for the last 8 years and they are still trying to use the same tactics. Don’t be like the Germans in the late 1930’s. Think for your self and remember photos are easily staged and faked!

If you have the audacity to post such articles expect a blow back, and deal with it.
Now if those flags were actually stolen from the Dems, which they will indeed state as the case, the McCain camp will be the one doing the explaining for having and distributing the stolen property, which they apparently already knew belonged to the Dems.
They should have just returned the flags and taken the high, and legal road on this.

As for the blowup, we’ll see. If there was a theft, then the Obama camp will definitely be filing a police report, and I’m sure some enterprising journalist will get that up on the web ASAP.

This one is not that difficult. If the democrats were throwing the flags away, they would not have been there a week later. There are events at the stadium regularly and the trash gets picked up after every one. The hundreds of bags of garbage were long gone. These bags, full of flags that were picked up after the event were left at the loading docks where the vendor reported finding them. They were probably supposed to be picked up within a few days. Somebody dropped the ball. A vendor, a republican, saw them on the docks and loaded them into his truck and delivered them to the McCain campaign which chose to take the most childish route available to them.
Can we get back to the issues now?

These flags were taken without permission by a vendor at the stadium… i.e. STOLEN. The employee who “donated” these flags should be fired and put in jail for grand theft. How shameful that they even brought the boyscouts into this. The McCain camp should also be prosecuted for distributing stolen goods. And I repeat: if you believe that these brand new flags were thrown away, you are an idiot.

God has blessed this nation so abundantly, but sadly, we are now we are witnessing the destruction of a Christian-principled nation by the very democracy which it was founded upon. In the name of “Freedom of Expression” are american flags burned, mutilated, destroyed and disrespected. Rosemary put it very succintly when she said we have told God to take a hike.
If not for America, where would the world be now? America is what is keeping this world from falling into total chaos, that is the Christian part of it, but only God knows how much longer it can continue to do so? God help us. God bless us and God Bless America.
Maybe I’m wrong, but I thought it was a clean up crew that took care of the garbage and other things left at the convention center, not the party folks, and certainly not the top candidates. So to say that the Dems, or Obama, threw out the flags doesn’t seem accurate to me. And what happened to all the flags after the Republican convention? Did someone actually take all of them to a VFW post for proper disposal?
A flag on a stick waved at a political rally is not the same as other flags. The one that came on my birthday cake went in the trash, but the one that was on my grandfather’s casket will be burned when it is no longer fit to fly.

McCAIN IS ACCUSED OF THEFT!
Apparently still reeling from being caught steeling no less than 12,000 US flags from the Democrats in an overnight raid recently, now authorities are revealing more theft complaints involving McCain and his personal entourage.
As if stealing 12,000 flags and blaming it on local Boy Scouts wasn’t enough, McCain now stands accused of steeling a copy of Gideon’s bible from a hotel in Minneapolis during his stay there for the convention earlier this week.
Hotel employees gave a list of several items missing from the Hotel after McCain stayed there, including the Bible. Other missing items included three cocktail glasses, an ice bucket, several bars of soap, three rolls of toilet paper and those tiny little ketchup and mustard bottles.
Boy Scouts den mothers also expressed their dismay given the recent circumstances surround the wild accusations that somehow Boy Scouts were wandering the Invesco Arena area during the late hours after the DNC Convention and had stumbled upon 12,000 US flags, which they were then alleged to have stolen and having fenced in Minneapolis to the RNC. “I am shocked” said one mother. “Little Jimmy is in by sunset and tucked in by 8:30 every night, including weekends”.
“These Bibles are no longer free to steal” said the Hotel manager anonymously for fear of scurrilous reprisals by Republican fanatics. “It clearly states on the inside cover that you have to send away now for a free copy of the Gideon’s Bible” exclaimed the Hotel manager.
“You can’t just go willy-nilly taking things as if you own the world” the manager added. “I hear he was illegally downloading music off the internet last month to use in his TV commercials to bash the Democrats.”
Apparently McCain has long suffered from a rare disorder called “Hotel Kleptomania” stemming all the way back to his days in the Hanoi Hilton, where staff still insist he would take spoons, which have not been accounted for to this day. McCain still holds a grudge against the Hiltons, recently implicating young Paris Hilton in one of his regular tirades about Barack Obama, his staunch Democratic rival for the presidency.
The Hiltons were not available for comment, but a spokesperson for the Hotel chain said that McCain has been blacklisted from staying at their hotels since the early 70s due to missing items whenever he would stay at one of their hotels.
This is just one more blow to the McCain camp, still reeling from theft accusations including stealing Barack Obama’s political campaign theme and message as well, a message of change and reform. “We knew he had taken the message”, as did several witnesses who spotted McCain, Washington insider and veteran politician for a quarter century, spouting the term change and reform where several members of the American public were gathered.
One witness said he knew McCain had stolen Obama’s message when he heard McCain having tremendous difficulty pronouncing the word “change”. “It sounded so strange coming from Mr. McCain that you could readily see he was unfamiliar with the concept or how to pronounce the word” said one eye witness. A local panhandler handed McCain a dollar, thinking McCain was begging for a hand out. “I just felt sorry for the guy” said the homeless man, he kept saying “change”.
Mr. Obama stated that “This is a sad day for all Americans” and lamented that McCain really had no message or content of his own to use for his campaign. Mr. Obama volunteered to donate his political message and theme to McCain just as soon as he was finished with them, after November 6th.
Democratic supporters feeling bad for poor McCain have started a campaign and are mailing McCain their loose change.

Keeping Our Flag
In May of 1776, George Washington, Robert Morris and George Ross (uncle to her late husband) came to Elizabeth (Betsy) Ross and asked her to sew the first flag for America. They gave her a rough drawing (drawn by General George Washington) of what they want the flag to look like. She was a widow trying to survive by running an upholstery business and other types of sewing. After showing the men how easy it was to cut a five point star they entrusted her with the American Flag.
Betsy Ross did not spend hours by a gas light sewing our first flag, for it to be changed by Obama. This flag is a symbol of our freedom, Freedom that we have fought for many years. It has managed to survive through The Revolutionary War, War of 1812, Mexican American, Civil War, Spanish American, World War 1, World War 2, Korean War, Vietnam War, Desert storm, Enduring Freedom, and Iraqi Freedom. Now After all that shouldn’t our next President be proud of our flag? The candidate Obama things this is ok. In his mind it is ok not to salute our Flag, to not put his hand on his heart during our national anthem or pledge of allegiance. But to change it after 232 years (not good enough) to some weird design he has come up with form his questionable past.
Hey, all you people who buy this lie, those flags were put in bags to take to other venues and re-use. Get it? Use again, NOT THROW AWAY.
The Republicans will twist anything into lies, like Obama raising taxes when he is lowering taxes for 95% of the people, and only rolling back tax breaks for the wealthy.

Molly, Obama is indeed going to cut income taxes for most people. Obama intends to raise taxes on businesses - but business always passes taxes along to the consumers as part of the price of their products. Most people don’t pay all that much in income tax, but everybody buys things. Obama will effectively raise taxes on everyone.
