WOW, that sounds like a wonderful experience and certainly a twilight zone-like one to boot!

And Kissinger? I think I would have lost the power of speech I would have been so nervous and excited. My father has had many discussions with Kissinger, but I have never had the opportunity. But I am a foreign policy guy, so… yeah.

Regardless, thank you for all you do.

And CC: the writing style is fine. I am in my early thirties, and I have no issues with the way this article is written, quite the opposite really. I think it is rather well written (except for the typo). I do not understand why that is a relevant critique of the article though? And as for the police and the death threats… they don’t believe us. Period. Even the GOP officials I have talked to are shocked when I tell them and have a hard time wrapping their brains around that.

Oh, and Bandrea…. you have no idea what you are talking about, are oversimplifying the issues and have totally bought into the bullshit spin coming out of the DNC, the Obama campaign and the media. Read some of the PUMA blogs, drop your ideation and open your mind. You might just learn something.

Cynthia, What a great blog write up! Yes, it was strange and exciting to be a lifelong democrat at the Republican convention. Life offers us different opportunities to learn new things. I have a much deeper appreciation of my colleagues on the other side of the aisle. I guess I really do believe in “country before party.”
You were so much fun to be with in St. Paul! I will never forget our time at the RNC of 2008. Go McCain / Palin!

Thanks for your post. Making this transition from lifelong Dem to a first vote for a Republican candidate has not been easy. Though I have no doubt about who is better for America I am so used to a kind of blind acceptance of the Democratic Party that I appreciate the stories of others who, like you, are standing up for Democratic principle by voting for McCain/Palin.

eaw449 — a site called “Citizens for McCain” which was launched by Sen. Joe Lieberman boasts 50,000 members so far. If you haven’t registered on their site, you might want to do that. My guess is that our numbers (the various nobama groups) are in the millions!

Another good site is “Democrats for Principle Before Party” which grew out of “The Denver Group.”

“The New Agenda” is another good site for Democrats determined to restore the party by defeating Obama.

Who are you to tell people to update their language? - it actually makes you sound rather snobbish. I didn’t know it was a requirement for us to all sound the same, or better yet, all sound like you.
As a 53 year old woman, I would say your comments sound like ageism - do you correct minorities that don’t sound like you also?

Thanks, Cynthia, for your first hand account of your unorthodox visit to the RNC. Except for the smug Joe Klein, it sounds like you were received and treated well. I’m sure your experience in Denver was not quite so welcoming from the Obama people.

I wish I and other McCain Dems could have joined you in St. Paul! But then, McCain would have needed a larger forum, like say Invesco Field to accomodate all of us!

Keep up the fight and don’t let the Obama bullies deter you.

I am so sorry to see someone who has fought so hard for the principles and ideas of the Democratic party to be so angry and bitter. This is such an important election — the Republicans have gotten us into a devastating war, have ruined the economy, divided our nation, made gays and immigrants demons and you are going to vote for them? I can’t imagine that this is what Hillary Clinton would have wanted from her supporters. How would you have felt if Hillary was the candidate for president and African-Americans were boycotting her and voting for Republicans because they were angry? I am proud to be a Democrat and to have had two awesome candidates running in the primaries — we were making history either way. I will proudly vote for Obama as a woman who believes in the future of this county and is sick and tired of the Republican agenda that has set us back a generation in the last 8 years.

If you are a feminist, you could never vote for a ticket that will have an opportunity to appoint at least a couple of Supreme Court justices in the next term. If you are not a feminist, then I can accept that you just don’t care.

It’s partly schtick; partly SEO (great Google ranking in organic searches); and partly because The Stiletto has gotten death threats from hate-crazed Turks when she writes about the Armenian Genocide (one of them was even posted on BNN). So The Stiletto thinks she’ll just stick to what has been a winning formula thus far.

As for the threats Cynthia is getting (she is a guest blogger on The Stiletto Blog) it’s probably a good idea for The Stiletto to pass along your concern and advice and see what she says.

Yes, Stiletto, that’s what I mean, modern, as in current. I could tell the writer of this piece was of the same era as the 60 year-old Hillary Clinton. The expressions are trite and dated.

BTW, it’s bad form to talk about yourself in the third person. It looks pompous, pretentious, and hyperbolic.

Most worrying, are the death threats, what have the police said about the perps who are making the threats. Are you keeping a record of these happenings? How do you know whether or not these people are dangerous? Please tell the police.

The author of this piece is a middle aged woman with grown kids! How modern do you want her vocabulary to get? Just like there’s such a thing as dressing too young for your age, there’s also such a thing as making a fool of yourself by talking/writing too young for your age.

Agree that it would have been great if she used her cellphone as you suggested, but its likely she was too caught up in the moment to have thought of it.

I am very disturbed by the statement of death threats. Have the police caught the baddies? Have the police been notified? Notifying the police is imperative, for your safety, and the safety of others.

Also, with that crowded skybox, why not use your cell phone to call the reporters on hand? Why not video your supporters, even without network reporters, and put them online? I know you know how to do that.

It’s also a good idea to modernize your vocabulary. The way you write now, reading it makes me feel like I’m in a time warp.

Amen, sister! If you haven’t already, check out The New Agenda (the link is in the article). It is a non-partisan alternative to NOW which will advance women’s causes other than abortion, which the co-founders feel has been used as a wedge issue to divide women and make sure that none of the other issues of importance to them ever get acted upon.

The group is open to all women - Dems, Repubs, Hillary supporters, conservatives. If you’re a woman who feels NOW and the Dems have let you down and you want change (yes, there’s that word again!) it’s worth checking out The New Agenda.

There are millions of us democrats voting for McCain this November. What I’ve notice, the worst enemy of any woman vying for high office are women themselves. I’ve read and listened to invectives delivered by women against Palin. What’s so ironic this election season, the Democratic Party heralded themselves as party for women; the more I scrutinize the democratic party, they’re the one holding back women. McCain made the right choice with Palin, he look at her track record, she’s a reformer(maverick), like him. Of course this doesn’t bode well with corrupt congress who loves earmark at our expense. This is the change we need, I’m very excited this election season. I can’t wait to cast my vote for McCain/Palin ticket in November. For the first time in my life, I’d vote Republican. I was a bleeding heart democrat, until they’ve exposed how corrupt they are.
