Domain names that are short and concise will always appreciate in value. I think entrepreneurs will register corporation names based on the domain names they are able to secure instead of the other way around. Of course 99.9% of domain names will never recoup registration fees, let alone hosting, web development and marketing.

Allen what planet do you live on? "Domain names do not appreciate over time?" You do not know what you are talking about, good domains gain value year after year. I guess you do not own good domains which will never be worth more then the $10.00 a year registration fee. As far as not renting a domain name and buying one try finding a good name you can register for $10.00 a year. I have rented many domains long term and would never think of taking it back because the renter was doing well.

Interesting. Rental agreements and lease agreements all specify a term. Generally, this term locks in both the owner and renter/lessee for that period, unless both parties agree to alter this. If the owner, renter or lessee wishes to break this agreement then compensatory damages are usually due (ie. the balance of rental/lease payments). Because the value of domains is increasing, like real estate, it is foreseeable that a few investment companies will in time own the best real estate and choose to rent/lease it rather than sell it. $10 domain names will probably still be found but not in top level domains. To get a place by the beach or an office in New York City will probably cost you a few thousand a day. If you want the traffic or view or location you're going to have to pay for it.
