Forget trooper-gate for a moment, I think senator McCain will need to fire who ever vetted Governor Sarah Palin when details of the Lungdren affair become better known
In the beauty queens first stint as a public official. Mayor of the tiny Alaskan town of Wasilla, population some 8000 souls. Madam Mayor decided to use tax money to build a fancy expensive sports complex, but instead of being honest and buying the land for the complex when it was offered to the town on the cheap.
She waited till developer Gary Lundgren bought it, then had the gall to seize the land from Lundgren through eminent domain. Of course after it was taken to court the folks of Wasilla ended up paying about $ 1.7 million for land it could have purchased for less than a tenth of that sum - the poor folks of Wasilla are still paying the price for that little shenanigan in higher taxes and service cutbacks.
A former beauty Queen praising God, guns and drilling for oil may excite the religious right and pack them into Senator McCain’s corner but I speculate Senator McCain’s gamble is going to cost the GOP more than the white house.

All politicians have their particular baggage. Everything considered, though, I think she is quite capable of being President, and certainly has led an interesting and well-rounded life, like most Americans.
McIdiot selected a self-proclaimed “mother first, governor second” hypocrite. Palin has underage children and a 4 month old redarded son, yet she is eager to leave them and spend 67 days on the road with McCain. If Palin can abandon her children at a time when all mothers are critically needed, how can we trust her to be loyal to our country? Coming from Alaska, she is a big fish in a small pond. As a woman, I would love to see an ethical, intelligent woman on any ticket. Women, such as Nancy Pelosi and Hillary Clinton, waited until their children were established adults before pursuing their own political careers. Palin is a has-been, second- rate beauty queen, who is still unfulfilled. Thank God she isn’t my mother, or like the majority of mothers who are the backbone of this country. Her actions belie her words as a “mother first”, and I challenge anyone to prove differently.
Learn to spell and/or think!
TheMadame said—- Maybe you should learn to use that thing behind your ears and work up a logical argument. By your standards Mothers that work are evil. What a dumb woman you are. You are the type of woman who probably needs a man to think for her. And I can almost bet you would NEVER vote for a woman to be president because of all of your silly excuses. But I bet you are all over that Obama/biden bandwagon. Do some research please.
Your way of thinking is exactly what the old boys love and keeps thousands of woman paid less money for doing the same job.
It’s not the 1950’s, but obviously you are stuck right there in the kitchen!

I’m open to partisan arguments, but partisan arguments with gross misstatements of fact waste my time and prejudice me against the side that makes them.
According to this news report and this one too, Palin did not invoke eminent domain. Her successor did, one month after Palin left office.
Hla what the Madame said just went right over your head. You are likely not able to understand what the other blogger is trying to say. Although, the child has down syndrome and is a blessing & madame was unkind. Either way, you seem to be concern about women’s rights and pay wage, yet you are not offended that a 1 term governer of a state with a population of 670,000 people is selected as a “token” to pander votes? You can love her all day long, but make not mistake she is being used and if elected will do nothing just like Dan Quall. With that said, how much do you make? under 5 million? You are so middle class according to McCain.
TheMadame said,in August 30th, 2008 at 12:09 am McIdiot selected a self-proclaimed “mother first, governor second” hypocrite. Palin has underage children and a 4 month old redarded son,
No, “The Madame”, and I use that term only because you do, she has a four month old son with Downs Syndrome. She is a highly ethical, dedicated public servant who walks like she talks and doesn’t just throw around cliche terms that she knows will grap votes. Threatens the living daylights out of you Barack Hussain Obama worshipers, doesn’t it? By the way, check it out, gs is correct. It was her predecessor.
“No politician was more closely associated with the Wasilla Multi-Use Sports Complex than Mayor Sarah Palin, who was first elected in 1996. For some, it remains a crowning achievement of her mayoral years. But it’s an unusual triumph for a politician who was known as an anti-tax, pro-property rights conservative — involving, as it did, a tax increase and the condemnation of private land.”- Anchorage daily News
And by the way-she was a Mayor of a city population of 5,470. The local High School here has 6,000 students!
Oh and by the way- The only things that “Threatens the daylights” out of people is the ignorance of some of you. I am sure the women is a fine, outstanding human being with a wonderful family and strong values- it does not mean she is qualified to be the next in line to the presidency!
As a point of order, I offer commentary blogging not AP wire articles,
Still I am also an O.N.A accredited journalist so I do check sources prior to a post,
If folks at CNN, MSNBC and the Washington post say its so then as a rule it is,
Of course exceptions define the precept of rules to begin with, and on the occasions I am factually wrong. You will find I am delighted to correct,
Unless of course you use FOX news as your sole source of dispute,

As usual, the right wingers will twist any criticism of Palin’s actions as a governor and mother the way Hla did. Of course someone can be a mother and have a career, but she has five children and supposedly espouses conservative values. The criticism is about hypocrisy, not mothers with careers. It is time to call these people out on constantly preaching morals to the rest of us while doing the opposite. Maybe mothers could choose to stay home with their children in a country where the economy wasn’t ruined by this very thing—Republican leaders saying one thing and doing another.
Was Palin still mayor when the city moved on eminent domain? I’d love to see the judge’s order siding with Lundgren in the case. It might have some interesting things to say about city leaders in Wasilla. Can you post the court decision? Where is this Lundgren guy? I’d love to hear from him. Is there any good local reporting back when Wasilla began construction on a piece of property the city did not own?
Hey There, Have you heard the news… The right wing conservative VP Pick Sarah Palin’s teenager daughter in a unwed 5 month pregnant girl. Hmmm, if you are teaching your child those values that you right wingers claim others are not… how did this young lady get pregnant? My guess is it was on purpose-she just wanted to staert a family at a young age so she can play with them while she is still young(Sarcasm) I guess Palin may have some other “stains” on your Conservative “do as I say not as I do” Party. Oh, I know, I can already hear you telling me not to judge her and it happen to everyone, it is a teenage thing. But, it is so interesting when you change your RIGHT WING BS when it is one of your own. LOL! LMAO!
Richard Smith:
You need to have someone review the orders of both the Federal Court and State of Alaska Court Cases as there were two lawsuits the Palin and the City of Wasilla filed against Lundgren. In both cases the court deviated from the standard fee away to award Lundgren additional fees and costs due to the bad conduct by the City of Wasilla and their legal representatives. Before the first lawsuit was filed the Palin administration attempted to rezone all of Lundgren’s property he acquired from the Natue Conservancy from Genera Commercial to Tourism to prevent him from developing the property. The City of Wasilla Planning and Zoning Commission stopped her dead in her tracts and refused her request for rezoning the Lundgren property. The court files of the first case in US Court seeking specific performance against The Nature Conservancy shows in the various pleading all of the actions of INVERSE CONDEMNATION she took against The Nature Conservancy and Lundren.
WHO SUES A NON-PROFIT LIKE THE NATURE CONSERVANCY ? SARAH PALIN DID !!
Richard Smith:
Palin was Mayor during these two lawsuits but left office after the second lawsuit was filed for condemnation of the property. She made the decision to build the Wasilla Sports Complex on property owned by Lundgren before she had title to the property. Only recently has the City of Wasilla obtained “CLEAR” title to the sports complex property. Wasilla Mayor Sarah Palin and her hand picked successor Mayor Dianne Keller have so mishandled the business affairs of little 5,000 population Wasilla that it cost the taxpayers millions with the risk of millions more due to their reckless conduct.
Dilemma:
If they dump her, they will lose.
If they keep her, they will lose.
Religious zealots, obsession with controlling your thoughts and rights, as well as fascination with a military build up = a fascist government…. we need to keep in mind that if they are successful in spreading an idea that the race is close, Americans need to guard the voting polls…. our votes need to count more than ever! BEWARE….
Hla, You obviously need to do your research.
Obama/Biden have been for womens rights all their political careers you embasile! Nothing about voting for Mccain equals advancement for womans civil liberties. He has voted against all of the above concerning equal pay for equal days work for women. Do your research before you begin wasting keystrokes again.
Stank you berry much.
According to the two stories that ‘gs said’ posted, this blogger is a little off the mark, but not much. The city was in negotiation with the Nature Conservancy to buy the land. At the same time, Gary Lundgren, the developer, had made an offer to the Nature Conservancy too, except on the national level. Palin sued on behalf of the city. Initially it looked like the case was going in the citys favor so Palins succesor, reportedly hand chosen successor, had the land condemned for public use so they could begin construction of the sports complex. This was one month after Palin left office. Then the court ruled in Lundgrens favor, saying he was entitled to the land. The assessment took a few years but now Wasillas money rains from the sky because the city of Wasilla built their sports complex on land that they didn’t really own.
Latest scoop from Alaskan friend is that Sarah Pallin had an affair with her hubby’s business partner. This is apparently documented in the divorce papers of that business partner and the Republicans are trying to have those papers sealed… Likely more scandals to break.
She definetly needs to be vetted! PERIOD!
You guys are looking under the wrong rocks. As I understand the issues, the town of Wasilla thought they had an agreement to buy 145 acres for $126,000 so they could build a sports complex.
Along comes a developer!! As negotiations between the city and TNC drag on, suddenly the developer purchases the 145 acres for 1 million dollars (I wonder if any money ever exchanged hands?). And, the whole deal ends up in litigation….
Makes me think of the Gibbs family in Illinois. After TNC deceived the elderly father into willing the family’s farm, which was located in a prime real estate area just outside Chicago, to an environmental organization, it ended up in the hands of TNC. Being the magnanimous group it is, TNC turned around and sued the father’s heirs. Seems TNC had an appraised value at the time the farm was gifted to the environmental group. Then they got another appraisal done after they received the farm (don’t think any money was ever exchanged here either). The second appraisal was 1 million dollars less than the first. So… TNC sued the heirs of the father’s estate for the difference in the appraised values, even though they ended up with the farm. What a group!! And to think they’re the 3rd largest non-profit in our 50 states, have state headquarter in each of these states, a national headquarter near our Capital Hill and with 3 billion in assets, an endless amount for lobbying.
No one doubt it’s time to clean house in DC but we need to work on our states too!!!
By the way, the Gibbs turned around and sued TNC. They won their case when an internal memo from TNC was leaked. The memo detailed their scheme, including the other environmental organization and how they planned to get the farm, from beginning to end. The unfortunate part, the Gibbs ended up having to sell the farm anyway to pay the litigation fees. What a deal??!!

Everyone knows they’re called the real estate arm of our federal government. Wasilla just got taken by a higher power. That’s all.

I think Sarah Palin have the word “B—h written all over her. She has 5 kids one special kid, 1 pregnant teen i think she have another promblems at home to contend to try to run a country. We don,t need that in the white house. She can,t even control her 17 year old daughter , how can she control a nation.
Bloggers in Alaska have mentioned Sarah’s affair with Frank Makowski and other’s. Husband Todd also having affairs….
These are people in small town Wasilla, some work with Palin’s and have blogged about Frank Makowski set up by Palin and he never should have bedded her. This was when he was in office as governor
