However, I think it IS news: were campaign funds used to provide his alleged mistress with a job? Will he campaign for Obama in NC, a state which hasn't gone democratic since Carter? Will he serve in an Obama administration? This "scandal" will dog him unless he deals with it maturely. It wasn't just a "private" matter back then. No, it was portrayed as evidence of the widespread hypocrisy of Christian leaders. Haggard preached against gay marriage and he ended up being a hypocrite. That was certainly newsworthy, and the MSM had no problem reporting on it day after day. How is the Edwards scandal any different? In his campaign, he kept bringing up how great a marriage he had, and we kept hearing glowing stories about how he and Elizabeth had their anniversary dinner at Wendy's every year. And in a debate moderated by Katie Couric, he was asked about the importance of marital fidelity, and he gave an answer that now seems extremely hypocritical. And if Ted Haggard was a national figure, how much more is John Edwards? It's completely absurd that no one in the MSM is reporting this story or checking out the facts.
