Wow touchy subject. There are so many different views on what should have happened, what could of, and if the people on the bus acted in the right way. I’m just writing an essay on how people should act out in these sort of situations and this is one of my examples. I just had a question of where exactly in Canada this was at?
But I just wanted to say that I agree with the people that say something should have been done. There are so many instances where lives could of been saved, but since no one acted out families can never see those people again. I would hope that if I was in a stiuation that called for help, someone…anyone would help me. I don’t know about any of you, but one can hope right. We see the same thing with the bystander effect. Just because people think that others will aid those in times of need, is no reason to not help. I don’t know, but I just don’t get why people don’t want to help. I just think about what if I was in that person’s shoes, what about that person’s family and friends? Do they honestly deserve no one to try to help them at all?

I’m with you Nancy. People are a bunch of f****** cowards. Dude only had a damn knife. What the hell is wrong with people. What if that was your family member or close friend.
That let you know that it’s some selfish people in this world. I rather get cut then stabbed a hundred times. To all the dummy’s that said “but he cut the man head off.” First of all, He cut the man head off after he stabbed the man 60 plus times, which mean someone or multiple people could have saved the man before he got his head cut off. Yaw need to learn how to fight. IF the man had a gun then its understandable to not help but he had a knife.
Goofy people in this world. For society SAVE YOURSELF BECAUSE SILLY COWARDS WON’T HELP.

if 25 people rammed into the guy (i know it’s a small bus, i just took the greyhound to come here) but if 25 people just jumped on the guy i’m sure he would have been stopped..

yeah, that’s what we need ‘more weapons’ good idea. this horrific attack happened in a matter of seconds, even if people were armed the man probably couldn’t have been saved, unfortunately.
bringing a gun into the equation probably would have just caused more deaths. imagine how much greater the damage could have been if the killer got his hands on a gun?? for a country with such a devastatingly bad reputation with gun deaths you’d think your opinion on the subject would differ.

Eg. (just one of many)
In 1999, there were 28,874 gun-related deaths in the United States.

i’ve never written on one of these but i’m truly devastated in knowing this sort of thing could have happened in canada of all places and there was nothing anyone could do, someone that mentally unstable just hopped on a bus and randomly killed and mutilated someone. I feel the people on that bus did the best they could in an impossible situation, it’s just shocking.

Things like this proves the futility in trying to legislate goodness. In the USA several people on that bus would have had hand guns and would have killed him before he finished his grissley deed.
People have been killing each other since Cain killed Able with a rock. That man knew no one on that bus was armed and could stop him.
Law abiding people need to be able to protect themselves and family.

If that happened in America that bastard would have been dead before that poor man he was stabbing died.

It’s not about being a hero, its about not tolerating sick scum like that in your society. We had a case here in Hawaii where I live where a man was swinging a knife around in a crowd trying to be a tough guy. He got what he did not expect, he had a mob chase he and beat his face in the ground. It took about 5-10 police to get him out of the mob that was stomping his face in the dirt.

That is how you take care of scum like that bastard on the bus. They should have grabbed him from behind and grabbed his arm, then comenceing to kicking his butt, and beating his face in.

Thirdly, the cops should have waisted no time and shot him on the scene. Just like they shot the man who killed the guitarist from Pantera. The cop did not walk in and negotiate with the killer, he went in with a shotgun and shot him like 2-3 times, if you go on youtube you can see it. I do not know why it took the cops three hours to negotiate with a sick bastard like that who had only a knife, gimme a break!! what is wrong with those Canadian cops?

No one should ever have to go through something like that, and for everyone else on the bus yeah look out for your own safety but for god’s sake it’s everyone vs. that guy at that point take him the f**k out and restrain his ass until the police show up!!

By the time they could have figured out what to do the victim was already dead, I do not think he would have survived in the time they could have mustered up enough people to rush the guy. I do commend them for holding him in the bus and not letting him out.

What I do not understand is why in the heck there was a stand off with the police. I do not know why the police did not get on that bus and fill that bastard full of lead. If that happened where I am from those cops would have put about 30 rounds in him; without hesitating.

When he taunted them with the victims head through the window, they should have shot him dead right there…end of story. When he climbed out of the window to escape they should have dragged his butt out of the window and dropped him head first into the ground, then they should have pounced on him and handcuffed him.

I 100% agree with sherrie. If you out number one man with a knife, by a busload of people im pretty sure you could stop him. This is to Haze, how could you compare this to a “fake action movie” nothing is fake about this it is real life and yes there are people sick enough to do something like this so dont base it on being some hero, if a couple people did something this guy could still be alive.

oh and Bob i dont even know how you could make a joke about this, what if that person was someone that you knew or even one of your family members i dont think it would be a joke then so maybe you should grow up and stop being a piece of shit.

I dont think its fair to judge these people. the guy was probably dead within seconds. he stabbed him 50 times. You think this guy would have let them stop him? Hell no. They would have been killed too. He was flipping nuts and would have hurt anyone who got in his way. He was trying to get out of the bus to get the other people but they stopped him. This is just a horrible situation. I heart breaks for that boy/his family and those people who witnesses this.

Bob, you should be ashamed of that joke its no laughing matter.
The people who commented that the other passengers should of stopped the killer, should consider the fact that until you are the one in the situation, you should not judge the reactions of others. Has anyone thought about the chance that they all stayed on the bus and the man killed more than one innocent? If you have ever taken a first aid course the first principle you learn is before helping others you must keep yourself safe. I think by the 3 men who tried to go back to help after finding tools to defend themselves, that they indeed portrayed civilian bravery in their efforts. This has been a shocking tragedy for the young mans family and friends, the other passengers on the bus and the world that mourns with them all.

What is this world coming to when a man can stab and cut of the head of another human. The passengers could have all help to stop the man and maybe saved a life. Would you want people to run away while you are being assulted or would you want someone to help you. This man may have children or grandchildren how can you explain that while their loved one was screaming in pain all you could do is run. Thank God for that truck driver he did hold the man until the cops got there.

Sorry, Kathy, you are absolutely wrong. Nancy is the one who has it right. Sure, I completely understand the impulse to flee and save myself: it is exactly what I would have done, too. But, please, let’s not call anyone “brave” — even though the police have said the same thing. Trying to save someone else’s life is brave; saving your own is just sensible. And going back in after the victim is already dead? Well, that’s just pointless.

By the way — I read the attacker was about 6 feet tall: not particularly “huge” by most standards.

to Nancy Reyes…you are a moron…the men were more than brave, they did go to save him, he was being gutted and beheaded next, they saved the rest of the bus passengers, sparing all passengers more horific sites than they needed to see, they risked their own lives but the victim was already dead, the man was huge and not right in the head…you probly can’t take a shit without the light on. The men were at their best…give credit where it’s due. You should be ashamed of yourself.

I’m with Rich here…if someone is nuts enough to cut someones head off unprovoked I don’t think playing hero and getting too close is a good thing. There could have easily been more than one victim here. And put yourself in the other passenger’s position, with the shock and terror of the situation it’s a wonder they were able to remove everyone from the bus unscathed.
