I heard about this when I was in the US in summer 2008, I heard Devin was swimming with 2 girls and they all spotted an alligator swimming towards them. They tried to swim away but the alligator overtook Devin and bit his left arm off at the shoulder.

What the story doesnt tell you is that this piece of white trash was shooting the alligator with a paintball gun before intentionally swimming with it. I live no more than 6 or 7 minutes down the road from this boy. He is a piece of ghetto trash who bullies kids at his school. I guess now he cant since he has one arm haha. Anyway, if any of you actually met this kid in person you would most likely find him to be trashy. See the comment above mine? Thats the kind of peopld he associates himself with. Around here they call this idiot boy a hero. Why? All he did was shoot an alligator with a paintball gun to try to piss it offl and then swim with it. Then he got his arm bitten off. he had it comming. Hes no hero. Hes a dipshit. I personally think he should have got drug under. So does most of Slidell. Even if they wont admit it.

Margaret I guess when you are a kid you just don’t have the fear in you as you do when you are an adult. I know when I was 11 or 12 I didn’t think anything of swimming in the bayou (in the Palm Lake area where we lived) with the gators. They only came in from the swamps when the water would rise so they weren’t always there but we still wasn’t afraid to jump in the water.

I grew up in Slidell, LA. I am currently living in the Hartford, Connecticut area. My prayers go out to this young boy and his family. What an awful ordeal to cope with.
I remember as a kid walking through the swamps off Short Cut Highway with rubber boots on. We were lucky to say the least. Not so sure that I would be anywhere near those waters today.

Marilyn, I am in Calgary, right now and yes it is a lot cooler here than there.

I do hope this little boy survives this attack. I think back to the years as a child when we didn’t have enough fear in us as to just how dangerous an alligator was.

My heart goes out to him and his family right now.
