As a mainstream Mormon, I think the modern practice of polygamy is contrary to God's will, and I have no real interest in defending those who practice it. For truth's sake, however, it is worth noting that the majority of the so-called "fundamentalist Mormons," who in reality ignore many of Mormonism's most fundamental doctrines, are nevertheless basically good, albeit misled, people. Very few "Mormon breakaway groups" are actually involved in the rape of underage girls. The FLDS is only one of many restorationalist denominations that have broken away from the LDS Church over the years; it's wrong to stereotype all fundamentalist restorationalists based on the acts of one denomination. Even more so, it’s wrong to stereotype mainstream Mormons based on the acts of a group that has explicitly renounced and rejected mainstream Mormonism.
