I have to admit that gas powered lawn mowers can be a bit of a pain in the ass. Over the years I have been known to call them all sorts of bad names when they won’t start. Milwaukee resident Keith Walendowski took being grumpy at his lawn mower to new highs, he shot it with a sawn-off shotgun!
This did not amuse the local cops and they have now charged our illustrious and grumpy Keith Walendowski with disorderly conduct and possession of a sawn-off shotgun. If found guilty he could face a fine of up to $11,000 and a maximum prison sentence of six-and-a-half years.
Naturally Mr Walendowski is a little upset over this, and he pointed out “It’s my lawn mower and my yard, so I can shoot it if I want.”
There is a pretty hot rumor that Mr Walendowski had been drinking prior to the shotgun adventure. Regardless of his state of sobriety, he does make a salient point, the incident happened on private property, and other than likely voiding the warranty on the lawnmower, no harm was done.
Maybe the best quote on the warenty issue comes from Dick Wagner of Wagner’s Garden Mart in Milwaukee “ANYTHING not factory recommended would void the warranty.” Now I have not checked the owners manual for a Lawn-Boy, but I’ll bet there is no mention of guns in the warranty section.
I recommend that Mr Walendowski tests the theory by taking the mower in to Wagner’s Garden Mart.

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a TrackbackIt seems Wisconsin is a hot-bed for drinking-related, idiotic mishaps…
I read this and cannot stop laughing.
1) I’m glad it wasn’t in Texas.
2) No jury would convict.
3) Seems to me that the mower deserved the death penalty.
Mowercide!
Will there be a public funeral or calling hours for the mower?!
What? and I wanted to shoot at my TV - like so many others. … But: “he could face a fine of up to $11,000 and a maximum prison sentence of six-and-a-half years.”
Now, now, that is way way too low of a sentence. Now, on the other hand if it would have been a riding mower - like for golf course - now that would be different.
What a bunch of blooming idiots - the cops in Wisconsin!!!!! Hell, people don’t do that much time for shooting people.
I’ve been in Mongolia (outer) for a year now and I’ve seen one lawnmower and it belongs to the mormons. Most of the cops here don’t carry guns, but significantly the security guards at the local version of the lawn and garden center are packing. Read into it what you will. Wonder what they would have charged him with if he had been using a weapon of legal length?
I’ve just checked the Wisconsin local bylaws concerning such incidents and it seems that there is a discrepancy in the law statutes.
For instance: If the lawnmower shooter shoots at: a push lawnmower; a 2cyle mower; a 4cycle mower; a rider type mower; or, a gang lawn mower. Then you get “wildly different sentences” and surprise of surprise - SOME TIMES someone gets A BENEFIT by doing so.
The EPA gives a credit towards ur income tax for the elimination of any two cycle lawnmowers - which are the cause of high levels of pollution. Consequently, I cannot see on how Mr. Keith Walendowski, can even be cited for an offence - only in Wisconsin, I guess.
Shooting a gang mower on the other hand should give good rewards, Aa this reduces gangs. : ) Any gang reduction - of any type - is good for the neighborhood - including Wisconsin I wuld presume.
Thus: if Mr. Walendowski shot at a 2 cycle mower and disabled it 4 good, then he should win an award just 4 being environamently conscious. Furthermore, if he disabled a gang lawnmower then he should be given an award fromy the: (AAG)Americans against gangs.:)
BTW, doesn’t every lawnmower user realize each & every lawnmower are great polluters to our environment?
Free Mr. Keith Walendowski, is what I say. He understands lawnmowers - including guns - better than u and me, or perhaps even the Wisconsin police.
Are there any non-hysterical overreacting police officers anywhere anymore?
I completely sympathize with the shooter. A small gas engine is less trustworthy than a cardboard life raft. You use it once, get it out next season, put in fresh gas, pull the rope 20 times, fiddle with the choke, pull the rope, clean the filter, pull the rope, clean the plug, pull the rope, then repeat. What do you get? 60 minutes of exercise punctuated by trips to the hardware store for more starting fluid. Now multiply by the number of chain saws, weedeaters, and gas blowers in your garage, then repeat monthly.
I think it’s great selection of commercial lawn mower. i like this post. thanks for sharing this blog!!!
