A 27-year old Elbridge, New York resident, Joseph Bisesi III, was charged with the murder of his mother and father on Wednesday after allegedly shooting them both with a rifle.  Elbridge is about 20 minutes outside of Syracuse, New York.

JoEllen Bisesi, 53, and Joseph Bisesi Jr., 54, were found at their home after their nephew noticed a torso sticking out from the septic tank in their yard. The torso belonged to Bisesi Jr. Police say that Bisesi III had dismembered his father’s body and had planned to place the body in the septic tank. The body of JoEllen Bisesi was eventually located inside the tank by police.

The nephew, William Kirby, arrived at his aunt and uncle’s home after their daughter, Gina, had been unable to reach her parents since Sunday morning. The Bisesi’s had been splitting their time between the home that they shared with their son and their camp. Kirby told police that he noticed a torso in the yard and that Bisesi III was not at home at the time. After Kirby went to the police, they searched the Bisesi residence. In the preliminary stages of the investigation on Tuesday, police told the media that they had located a body, but that they had yet to determine the location of JoEllen and Joseph Jr. Bisesi.

A Bisesi family member told local news channel 9WSYR that JoEllen Bisesi had been afraid of her son, and that she and her husband had been spending more and more time at their camp as opposed to the home that they shared with their son.

Bisesi III turned himself in to police on Tuesday and confessed to shooting his parents with a .22-caliber rifle and a 12-gauge shotgun before placing his mother’s body in their septic tank. Bisesi III has been charged with first-degree murder and remains in custody without bail.

Police told reporters that they had responded to emergency calls from the Bisesi household before, but would not comment on a motive for the killings.

Elbridge, New York is a quiet, rural town outside of Syracuse with a population of about 6,000 people. The town, spanning about 36 square miles, is shocked that a cold-blooded crime like the murder of JoEllen and Joseph Bisesi Jr. could have occurred there.
