The recent decision by SCOTUS was a serious blow to Brady and all the rest of the anti gun crowd. Their best attempt to negate the Second Amendment with a specious argument crashed and burned with that ruling. Now they are desperately trying to regroup and recover, blustering about how it really doesn't mean a thing.
The DC attempt to weasel their way out of the ruling is just that, their best shot at lip service to the court with no real compliance. I cannot believe that their position will be allowed to stand any more than such devices were allowed to deny voting rights to some in days gone by. I am sure there were officials in the South who argued that poll taxes and literacy requirements were really for the good of the people. And they stayed adamant in those beliefs right up until Federal Marshalls came to call for an attitude readjustment.

ownership restrictions that remain in place cannot be reasonably challenged - such as prohibiting possession of firearms by felons or the mentally ill. ...

Define for me please "the" mentally ill. And then "the" Jews, "the" Blacks.

Scalia erred, no one noted it. Laws prohibit a specific group, people who have been involuntarily committed, from legally purchasing a gun.
