This band (in my mind at least) is mislabeled, they are stamped as Thrash Metal, of course it could be that I don’t understand the genre, but I don’t think that is the case. I know thrash, and this re-release from 1990 does not fit the bill. It is way too good to be labeled thrash. The quality of the compositions  and the quality of the music puts this band way outside of the traditional definition of thrash.

While track 6, aptly named ‘Six’ has some smattering of the thrash genre, the rest of the album is just a delightful romp into the world of heavy rock.

Flotsam And Jetsam are from Phoenix Arizona, and started off life in 1981. The band is made up of Eric A. (‘AK’) Knudtsen handling the ‘front of house’ duties, Ed Carlson on guitar, Jason Ward on bass, Mark Simpson again on guitar, and Craig Nielsen handles the drums.

As a human Guinea Pig, I live my life, out on the line

What a great line. Certainly one better than the average thrasher could come up with!

The one thing that amazes me about this wonderful band is the label that is running with this release.  Don’t get me wrong here, I really like Metal Minds, they are the label of choice for European prog and metal bands. Neo, Pendragon, Oliver Wakeman, Clive Nolan, they all record with Metal Mind Productions, my question is though, why would an Arizona based band use a label based in Poland? In my mind at least, it shows the sorry state of the US music industry. If it isn’t CRap or Country it doesn’t have a home.

You can pick up your own copy of this fabulous CD from MVD.
