This review is right on target. THE FRONT is shallow, badly written, and with entirely unlikeable characters. I have read all the Scarpetta novels and liked almost all of them, although the last one, "Scarpetta" was deeply flawed as I have written in another space. Is she losing her stuff? She said in an English interview that she is a more sensitive writer now that she has come out of the closet and is in a same sex marriage, but her earlier works were better. (I don't want this to be seen as a disguised anti-gay statement that her novels got worse as she declared herself a lesbian--our family is a sexually [and racially] mixed one.)
