As a small business owner, I have used Craigslist numerous times to advertise for employment, search for equipment, etc. I never knew until just recently watching an MSNBC special on human trafficking and enslavement that such deplorable acts were being committed against children and women and that these monsters who advertise them and the monsters who respond to these ads do so on Craigslist.

I am absolutely dismayed that I have given my money to a website company that condones such atrocities against humanity through their lack of policing their site and knowing letting these types of ads run on the site they control.

I will never, ever again use Craigslist for anything….I’m appalled and disgusted. I thought Craigslist was this cool, grounded community site when in fact they are just money hungry pimps themselves…enjoy your blood money Craigslist, you’ll never see another dime from me.

Don’t people realize that the majority of these girls are not doing this because they want to?! Almost all of the online ads selling sex with minors is being done so by pimps, not the girls themselves. These girls & yes sometimes boys too, have been kidnapped, beaten, brutalized, drugged, and are not enslaved. What’s worse is if they’re lucky enough to escape this abuse, they are condemned by people that just don’t get it. Obviously the internet makes this trafficking easier.

I truly believe that “erotic services” gives craigslist a lot of traffic if it gets removed CL will loose popularity. What kind of erotic LEGAL service can be found there? we all know whats going on, but why do we really care? I mean why?

I agree it has happened long before this, however never in numbers like this. The internet is the new portal. You are absolutely correct about swift arrests being the ultimate means for combatting this issue.

I personally am a huge fan of Craigslist. And there is a section for adults to meet in the encounters section. The point that I believe was made earlier about how if these ads were placed in places where they could be easily flagged by those not wanting to solicit sex from a minor would allow immediate notification to law enforcement.

Craigslist is supposed to be an online community. Just like I want to support ending the prostituion of children in my town I want to end it on Craigslist. We need to actively combat this!

Sex existed before craigslist my friend, and it will flourish long after craigslist.

sexual abuse existed before craigslist and unfortunately it will continue even if the erotic section is closed.

besides craigslist is not the only online meeting place for people interested in hooking up. you can’t go around closing every internet site because a few underaged girls abuse the section.

The key is quick and ruthless prosecution of people who KNOWINGLY promote and engage in sex with minors and let’s leave the other responsible ADULTS to freely associate and communicate with other responsible and consenting adults.

Research conducted by non profits show that Craigslist more than the street or any other online escort service or chatline is where most minors are commercially sexually exploited. The point of shutting down the section is if it is harder for us to find where kids are being sexually exploited it is harder for the perverts looking for them.

If these predators, because yes, sleeping with a minor is rape even if you pay for it, have a harder time finding the kids being exploited than it will lower the demand driving pimps to exploit them in the first place. You cannot compare secondary results of alcohol to blatent selling of children for profit.

I read the article twice, both the link and this story, and I still don’t see exactly where craigslist is responsible for this lost child wanting to ‘feel loved.’

So certain individuals abuse the erotic section on craigslist, that automatically means it should be eliminated?!?

But liquor stores should get a pass regardless of how many losers cause triple the havoc after getting drunk??

Imbue the unbreakable bond in your child with love and communication and trust and you show her the line she will never cross, no matter how enticing the imagined results and you never have to worry about craigslist.

I find it rediculous that you are so concerned about what consenting adults are doing. why dont you “blog” about your government removing your rights daily? Why dont you blog about the drugs sold and taxed by your government, sold to you and your mother? Where there is a will there is a way!!! People will do anything for money and prostitution has been going on since the begining of time. The problem today is DRUGS especialy crack, its takes only one time and a person is hooked for life. pimps take advantage of young girls usely a runaway but not always, hook them and use them till there use up. its sad but this goes on all over the country. and yes if you do away with certain listings they will find a way to get thru.just check out the wanted ads in local and free papers. if you know how to read certain ads then there they are plain as day.stop the drugs and you will stop 60/70 percent of the prostitution.
