Bill Merit, 49, was released from the Chatham County jail in Gerogia, naked.

According to police, Merit, began walking along the side of the road without any clothing on.

Witnesses called the police who arrested, jailed, and charged him with public indecency.

A police report says Merit informed an officer the reason he didn’t take the clothing offered to him by jailers because he thought they were stolen.

The report goes on to say that Merit “appeared rational except for being naked.”

According to Yahoo News, jail records show that Merit had been booked two days earlier on charges of criminal trespass and disorderly conduct. Chatham County Sheriff Lt. Thomas Tillman said Wednesday Merit remains in jail awaiting arraignment. He says he does not know if Merit has a lawyer.
