Thanks for the informatiive post. Both the radical nationalists and finatic Islamists in Turkey is real problem.

Freedom of expression is a concept Turkey is not use too. Maybe as they look to the Western Countries they may learn something.

Stiletto,

Your article is full of contradictions and holes. Erdogan is not trying to bring back sharia law, the Constitutional court did not rule in favour of secularism, modernity or feminism. Erdogan's AK party is the most successful party in Turkish history which has been vindicated with the start of accession talks to enter the EU. To become a member of the EU, secularism is a condition. So any claim that Erdogan is trying to introduce sharia is nothing but a fantasy.
The fact of the matter is that the Muslim headscarf is a religious requirement of Islam which is worn by 65% of women in Turkey. Freedom of expression and freedom of education is a universal right which these women would like to exercise. The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post and The New York Times have backed this initiative due to their support of democracy.
Your claim that by allowing the Headscarf will lead to a 'creep' is nothing disturbing and pandering to fear and nothing more. The secularists in Turkey are not democrats or noble citizens who want a more democratic Turkey. But are fear frenzied, fanatical radicals who can't seem to handle any form of oppposition or diversity.
In Future could you please be more correct and don't pander to fear mongering individuals.
