Richard Perle has made the stunning admission that, had he been clairvoyant, he wouldn’t have advocated the Iraq war. Well, welcome to the club! Everyone from Jonah Goldberg to John Kerry is a member.

The fact of the matter, of course, is that no one can see the future. Saddam Hussein defied the UN, wouldn’t allow inspectors in to see if he had WMD and just generally tempted us into war. (To this day, no one’s been able to explain his behavior beyond “he’s crazy.”)

Clinton stayover George Tenet, perhaps the most important figure in the intelligence community, called it a “slam dunk case” Hussein had WMD. These were the facts we had to base a decision on at the time.

Instead of handing CNN election-week lefty talking points on a golden platter, Perle should be addressing the question of where to go now (some expert suggestions I wrote about are here).
