According to a recent report a class action lawsuit over asbestos exposure has been filed in Tokyo, Japan . It is thought that the class action suit is the first to have been filed in Japan in relation to health problems caused by asbestos through exposure at construction sites.

The lawsuit has been filed on behalf of one hundred and seventy eight plaintiffs, including construction workers and their families. It claims that both the government and manufacturers knew of the dangers of asbestos but allowed construction workers to be exposed to it.

The lawsuit further claims that due to this exposure one hundred and seventy two workers developed lung cancer, and fifty percent of these are now dead. Asbestos is a known carcinogenic and can cause lung cancer, respiratory problems, and scarring of the lungs.

The man heading the group of plaintiffs stated: “We will do our utmost until we win the suit. We seek complete relief for the victims by clarifying the liability of the state and the manufacturers.”
